I'm a.k.a. MovieJay to many people, and that's because I heart movies. I spend so much time living that I've found it surprising how so many of the best parts of myself just fall by the wayside on this site. Perhaps it's because I care about politics, but in my own life, not so much.
I love acting and writing. I do a little tutoring. I find a few shifts here and there at restaurants and bars. Save a little cash. Travel. Love meeting people and hearing their stories. I love this blog idea. It'll be sometimes dedicated to my favorite things like movies, but also to music and some current events, too.
I'm going to mostly add some levity, since I usually just log on here and vent; mostly about our troubled times, the lack of real leadership in America, and her citizens, who, bless them, run lives that are so busy that they sometimes let themselves be duped and played upon by their leaders.
The photo I've got up is kind of about that. It's a self-portrait by Joni Mitchell on her 1994 album Turbulent Indigo. She's paying homage to Vincent Van Gogh with the bandage over her head because she's cut off her ear. She painted it at a time when she started getting really sick of the music industry, which has begun to reward cruise-line entertainers instead of real talent.
For me, the bandage around my head would be in protest of the lousy leadership in the world today on the biggest issues that beg to be addressed, like the environment, a cleaner energy policy, world hunger and poverty, and the two simultaneous wars in the Middle East.
Every time American politics goes the way of sandbox fights, think of me cutting off my ear and putting the bandage on. A politician's crazy pastor? Bandage time. Can a woman or a black man be POTUS? Bandage time again. Gay marriage? You got it; get me the knife.....and don't forget the bandages!
