We know there is a problem, but our error is that we look toward the federal government to find solutions to all of these problems. The federal government cannot solve any social problems because the american people are too diverse in its lifestyles, so we should be looking to the states and local level governments to try and find real solutions. The U.S. has 87,504 governments. For some reason we only look toward the federal to solve all of our problems.

I blame it on the fact that we have so many families in which both parents are working. I think it is great that women want to have careers, but one of the parent needs to sacrifice his or her career in order to properly raise the children. Close relationships between children and parents will stop most of this shit.

I think that is part of it. But the problem goes much deeper. There is a book called the Culture of Make Beleive by Derrick Jensen that explores the hatred and violence in our society. It is a very emotional and painful work but I think he comes close to explaining the root of our societies problems. I wont get into it here because it would never do it justice, but if you are interested it is a worthwhile read.

Why should we wait for state and local governments? Why aren't the people and citizens taking responsibility for this, rather than waiting for some other legislative body to do it? An entire generation is seemingly being slaughtered on a weekly, almost daily basis - yet we don't seem to care. There is something seriously, and fundamentally wrong occurring.

@noahath: I wouldn't shout as loud. Shit like this is increasingly happening everywhere in the West.

Ordered to make a suicidal charge, it became one of the most famous events of the Civil War. The re-enactment portrayed in the movie Gods and Generals:

Those girls remind me so much of my Mennonite nieces when they were that age. The thought of one of them going through something like this is truly horrifying.

I don't get along much with Slon. To me, he has proven to be a very selfish individual, but *I have never suspected him of being a Child. Where do you get that opinion???

I think O'sullivan is right, given the closeness of which he was firing from and proximity of it i think more will die.

Also even if some survive they may be left in a coma/paralyzed/brain dead...i mean what sort of a life is that? someone soyoung who has all their life ahead of them, its disgusting to think someone can just walk into a school and do this.

Re: Gunman shoots girls in Amish school

Remember that song, "I don't like Mondays" by the boomtown rats, I think.
All about a school shooting, where when they asked the girl why she killed the people she said "I don't like Mondays". This was a Monday too.
