oh, so you make a cheap shot at me and now you want to put on your halo?

Maybe in anglos circles, your jokes are funny. Think you'll hear any Mexican-Americans chuckling with you on your racist comments?

For you to take offense at that, you must be one of the illegals.

Cheap Shot at you? are you an illegal alien??

I live in Los Angeles and have for over 20 years now. Everyday I live and work closely with thousands of Latino's and not one of them would be caught dead reffering to themselves as a "Chicano". They might occasionally refer to themselves as "latino", but never as 'chicano'. So, me-thinks you are a probably being 'factually incorrect' about your heritage.

Be that as it may, I am not a racist and I believe that normal, reasonable people could/would not construe or perceive any racism in my post.

PS - MY POST WAS IRONIC.

Chicano racists are difficult to identify because so few identify themselves as Chicano.

Racism against a specific group is hard to prove unless one comes out and says, "I oppose all French Canadians" or something. Then, and only then, there could be a 'racist' claim.

Anyway, the fence should help to curb the influx from Mexico so those who are here 'legally' may have an easier time. Is the 'fence' going to be electrical charged? Will it look similar to the fence that divides Israel?

I know. To you an illegal is someone foreign to you.

Except for me being Chicano it hits closer to home. It's not just a joke.

All Latinos are connected to this so-called "illegal alien". We hear you guys joke about it, we remember you names. We don't forget people like that.

Chicano? No one uses that term any more. What country are you really from?

That is untrue. There are many Latinos who support the fence initiative.

I don't blame you but, you are so vague about what was said. I know of no one who calls you names unless 'illegal alien' is what you are talking about.

The fence should help with security. Right now it's broken.

This is great news about the fence, if only Failure was on the Mexico side of the border!

For your information, in a large way you ar preaching to the choir. I never joke about immigration. and frankly, you have not denied being an illegal. In illegal to me is one who is in this country ILLEGALY. no more, no less. And I happen to be one who beleives that ALL illegals should fess up, and take steps to become legal, If they did, there would, and should be amnesty.

I disagree, we've done that before back in the 80's and it caused us more problems with people sneeking in....I say get the hell out and do it the legal way.

Mexicans pay a coyote up to 3000 American dollars to be guided across the border. They can't afford that, making only the equivalent of $6 to $10.00 per day. The realization that the odds of making it across the border is remote with 6 thousand National Guard has really been a deterent in changing their minds of even trying to cross.
(emphasis added by me)
Really? But how do you know until you try?

Nobody said the fence alone would solve the problem. But it's a good start. I think those border police and National Guards will be glad to see a fence in place, don't you?

OK, op-vs-op But they never took the steps to make it work, or to make ther illegals legal. Maybe this time they will be smarter.

Now they need to direct attention at the reason the illegals make the attempt in the first place. We need to see some serious fines and jail time for those who knowingly hire illegals.

Chicano is a very old term, used back in the 70's. Most Chicano's I knew didn't even speak Spanish. They were American born.

So many are hired with false papers & social security numbers. So, I really can't put all the blame on the employer.

What we need is to soften up the requirements for Mexicans wanting to enter this country legally, to work. Proper papers, an employer waiting for them, etc. President Bush's proposal of a temporary work visa--would meet that demand.

Right now, it's so hard for Mexicans who really want to work, to enter this country. That's why we have so many illegals.
