Duncan Hunter (R) CA wants to censor CNN

Duncan Hunter wants to un-embed CNN from Iraq to punish them for showing the reality of war on TV. Hunter is a crook with ties to the Duke Cunningham scandal and will hopefully lose the election in two weeks to Iraq vet John Rinaldi (D).

Is that the smell of desparation, the frantic search for an issue that might have a little traction, because if the Democrats do win this November, there might not be enough jobs on K Street for all the newly unemployed.

on second thought i have to ask this question

do you like seeing your soldiers die sam?(not figuratlivley but literally) is that something you think we need to see? is that something that will improve matters and educate the public at the expense of the family of the person who is getting wacked on your tv set?

never for censorship but are you FOR this kind of show?

I think that it's not a matter of 'liking' what one is seeing, but a matter of preferring to have access to all available information.

Right Dr GT. Let's have the truth. It doesn't make us safer to be shielded from the truth while the rest of the world sees the real story. I would say it actually makes us less safe.

*shielded being a nice way of saying government censorship.

MY 2 mils: I didn't see the offending show, So I also have to ask the questions

1. Did CNN warn the veiwers ahead of time??, (or was it a shock factor).

2. By the same token did they warn the family first that it would be shown?

3. If the answer to either of these question is NO, CNN was wrong. If Yes, then they were proper in their actions regardless of how distressful the scene was.

In short, SHOW THE TRUTH--- NO CENSORSHIP.

I'm against censorship but all for using good judgment. To show the actual deaths of humans in the 6:00 news isn't using good judgment, in my opinion. Do we have to see the violence to know it exists? Do we have to see someone getting shot to know they died? Is it fair to the family members to show the deaths?
Granted, most of the younger generation would be unphased by seeing the deaths because they've grown up with the desensitizing violent movies, "reality" cop shows, etc., but most of the older generation doesn't need visuals in order to grasp the situation.
It's a shame that CNN is falling into the trap of sensationalism.

I think we do need to see it. I think people need to know exactly what it means to be at war. The more people are forced to confront the ugly reality the more unlikely that they will be willing to go along with the next terror-talking cowboy that sits in the oval office.

Do you honestly think that people don't understand the horrors of war without visual aids? I think you underestimate our intelligence.

Re: Duncan Hunter (R) CA wants to censor CNN

Calling un-embedding "censorship" doesn't seem appropriate. Embedding is the provision of special access by the government. It is under no obligation to do this. Therefore, withholding the special access cannot be considered censorship.

I missed the story, but I'm guessing some are upset that this special access was used to show the killing of an American soldier. If un-embedded, CNN would remain as free to report as before, even including killings. It would simply have to find its own ride.

The gov is sneaky enough as it is. The government has always concealed truth for eons. Until recently, our rights have decrease significantly more. We all should know the truth, but the fact is our leaders lie out of their asses to protect their own personal interests. Facism at its finest. Without true facts from the source, then everything you know is completely questionable. At this time, we do need to question our government because nothing is adding up. Too many "leaks" and discrepancies have caused us to question our leaders. It is healthy to think independently and question information if we feel there is a flaw. However, the government does not want this, obviously. They want to control and conceal through lies and terrorism. They use the excuse for terrorism, as a hidden form of terrorism. Talk about a double-standard. Bottom line? They won't show the truth because it is probably too vile to see. It would cause an all-out war against our government
