Democrats Poised to Gain a Majority of Governorships

The winds of change are blowing throughout the political spectrum, and it's looking like a similar climate to the Republican takover of 1994. While over at the Zogby site I came across this article:

Quote:
Democrats Poised to Gain a Majority of Governorships

Democrats may gain a majority of U.S. governorships for the first time since 1994, as the party's candidates in states including New York, Ohio and Massachusetts lead in polls to fill vacancies left by departing Republicans.

Voters tomorrow will elect governors in 36 states, 22 of which are run by Republicans. That lineup of races favors Democrats at a time when the war in Iraq and Washington scandals have battered the Republican Party's national standing and threatened its control of Congress.

"The map for the Republicans is much more challenging than the map for the Democrats,'' said Philip Musser, executive director of the Republican Governors Association, a Washington- based group that aids the party's candidates. "We're facing a national environment whose effects have yet to be seen.''

U.S. governors oversee budgets of more than $1 trillion a year and can use their positions to shape policies on issues with a national impact, such as welfare or global warming. They also may become contenders for the White House, where four of the last five presidents were ex-governors. ...
This could have a lasting effect, that will make it more difficult for republicans to regain traction, should they suffer major losses tomorrow.

Re: Democrats Poised to Gain a Majority of Governorships

Governorships and state houses are the key to gerrymandering.
The last election, gerrymandered differently, could have given the Democrats a majority in the House. And with the way people are going to vote in this upcoming election, a properly gerrymandered nation could give the Democrats a veto proof majority in the House.
In 2010 the maps get redrawn, needless to say, with more statehouses going blue, this will only add to the underlying Democratic majority.

Re: Democrats Poised to Gain a Majority of Governorships

As a conservative, tell me why I should vote Republican?

To let in millions of more illegals?
To possibly let terrorists into the country via the southern border?
To spend billions on social programs and drive up the debt?
To keep shipping jobs off to communist China? What the eff is up with this? We should be buying goods from countries who are not communist. Mexico comes to mind since it has hard working people, is close, and needs jobs. Eff China...

Screw em. I'm glad we are going to lose. We deserve it after the way we've looked the other way as millions of people are waltzing into our country and taking advantage of our un-constitutional federal social programs.
We need to purge the party of the rino's and neo-cons and put up new Republicans who will do things such as cutting social spending, protect the border, reduce the federal government, and keep religion out of politics.
Drop stupid issues like the flag burning admendment and just work on making the federal government smaller while protecting the border. And if they want to admend the constitution, then get rid of the anchor baby loophole. There is absolutly no reason why we should be taxed to pay for people who illegally entered this country and who are not citizens. And even if they get amnesty, I absolutly still do not think they deserve any of our tax money. If you think they do, then start a federal Higher Optional Tax and voluntarily give out of your own paycheck.

Kramer, while talking tough about immigration is a vote getter, ignoring it is a fundraiser, which is why that is the Republican position.
Talk tough, get the conservative votes, ignore it, get the contributions from the people who are getting wealthy off the labor of the illegals.

What are you talking about, how is your attack on Zogby got anything to do with this article, it was published by bloomberg magazine.

Zogby may as well be an al Jazeera pollster. Anyway, they never took in account how Steele has grabbed the Democrat votes and is poised to win in Maryland.

The slew of stories in recent weeks on the key races for control of the Senate consistently have omitted the one candidacy that might represent the Republican Party's best chance of winning a seat in Congress' upper chamber tonight: Lt. Gov. Michael Steele in Maryland.

That Mr. Steele has been overlooked by political pros is understandable: He's running his own true campaign for the first time, and he's a Republican running in a very blue state in an election likely to be very good for Democrats. Democrats have known for some time that Mr. Steele, who is black, was a threat to double (or more) the 5 percent to 10 percent of the black vote most Republicans win.

Re: Democrats Poised to Gain a Majority of Governorships

I will be voting for Eliot Spitzer (D) for governor today. He will be replacing our Republican governor George Pataki, who seems to think he has a shot at the presidency in '08.

After today, New York and the entire Northeast is going to be quite a bit more blue than it already was.

Again I say how does Zogby have anything to do with this Bloomberg story

And as of yesterday Steele was outside the margin for error in the polls, a tight race, poised, but by no means a shoe-in.

amen brother. By tomorrow we'll know the effects of all the liberal propaganda. My guess is it's going to be a long night for the Dems.

Though i'm no fan of what the Republicans have been doing anyone who allows a Democrat to be elected is magnifying the mistakes the Republicans have made.

Does anyone actually believe any democrats are for lower taxes, less government, or a strong military?
