A U.S. military 'at its breaking point' considers foreign recruits

Quote:
The armed forces, already struggling to meet recruiting goals, are considering expanding the number of noncitizens in the ranks, including disputed proposals to open recruiting stations overseas and put more immigrants on a faster track to U.S. citizenship if they volunteer, according to Pentagon officials.

Foreign citizens' serving in the U.S. military is a highly charged issue, which could expose the Pentagon to criticism that it is essentially using mercenaries to defend the country. Other analysts voice concern that a large contingent of noncitizens under arms could jeopardize national security or reflect badly on Americans' willingness to serve in uniform.

Re: A U.S. military 'at its breaking point' considers foreign recruits

I think it would be an idea worth looking into. If someone living here wants citizenship and they are willing to actually go fight for our country, then anti-immigration bigots and leftists would be hard-pressed to come up with excuses to deny them citizenship.

According to the military they are not struggling to meet recruiting goals. Given that I wouldnt be surprised if the rest of the story is wrong either. The press is too concerned with making a point to report facts.

Re: A U.S. military 'at its breaking point' considers foreign recruits

The US military has taken foreign volunteers since the Revolution, this is hardly breaking news.
I know a guy who was in one of Ayatollah Khomenei's Angel Martyr battalions, when he was 13, him and a 12 year old actually killed an Iraqi tank, it took two of them to lift the RPG launcher, who enlisted and served in the US Army later.

Is this the beginning of the "American Foreign Legion"?

I just wanted to highlight this again. The military is not struggling to meet recruiting goals. Everything else is just liberal rhetoric.

Iran used children to clear minefields, not destroy tanks.

Hey don't destroy Goober's SPIN and half-truths as it effects his Liberal status with other wussies!

Now if a few cowards would join instead of hiding at Berkely, UCLA, Columbia, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, problem solved!

I like how COWARD is avoided, by saying:

I'm a Pacifist
9/11 was internal or the Jews did it
I won't fight for something I don't believe in so therefore I am in the CNN-MSNBC Hall of Fame!
Actually I'm a wimp and I would rather cry, and bitch and blame Bush!!

Real Men & Women in Uniform do not wan't your asses at all, but I see no problem telling Mexicans THEY WILL JOIN if they come here ILLEGAL and yes they can form their OWN companies!

You joinin Failure? Make your Dad proud for ONCE!!

I don't think my dad would be even little tiny bit proud if I joined the military.

America has finally resorted to outsourcing the military.

How did you come to that conclusion, or is that just sarcasm?

Re: A U.S. military 'at its breaking point' considers foreign recruits

During Vietnam, more than 30,000 Canadians (80 killed) served in the US military. During the early years of WWII thousands of Americans served in both the Canadian and British military. Thousands of Irish served in the British military and were shunned by theri government when they returned home.

The point I am making here is it is important "why" one serves, not where one is from.

Completion of military service earns instant citizenship for legal residents.

Re: A U.S. military 'at its breaking point' considers foreign recruits

Breaking News???

Last I knew there were over 100,000 non-citizens serving in the military.
Many are LEGAL immigrants.

Right now every branch except the Army has MORE applicants than they need soldiers for...in other words every branch except the Army is TURNING PEOPLE AWAY.

Nothing here folks but just another malicious angle to bash America
