Re: US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

To use an AC-130 gunship to turn retreating islamists, and one possible al Qaeda member into hamburger seems a little excessive, and barbaric.

I have a problem with the all too common usage of stand-off weapons technologies that result in the all too common collateral fatalities.

Call me crazy, but I'd get more satisfaction knowing that one of our soldiers got to watch the life drain from a terrorist's body, as his knife is thrust into his body.

"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear."

"So many dead people were lying in the area. We do not know who is who, but the raid was a success,"

interim government spokesman Abdirahman Dinari told AFP news agency about Monday's raids.

You are crazy.

I get a lot of satisfaction knowing our guys won without ever being exposed to any return fire. Fair is for games with friends, not real military operations.

Re: US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

I think this was a good idea. I think it was a good idea when Clinton tried. When we know exactly who the target is and we can show people that we are honestly after a known criminal who attacked US targets - one that no one else either will or can bring to justice - then by all means, "take it to the enemy"!

This makes sense to me. This is where that cowboy attitude works, not Iraq where we were making preemptive strikes against a sovereign nation and couldn't draw clear lines even to a threat of terrorism.

In this case, I don't think the US needs "permission" from anyone.

Take it to the enemy, Mr. Bush. God bless America and the Somali's who suffer with the pestilence of terrorists on top of the multitude of burdens they faced already.

I hope we learned from past mistakes and don't screw up this time.

If it is true, there is the line.

And yes, I'm tired of seeing my government fuck up.

Not in that one but I have to AQ attacks elsewhere. Revenge is never an adequate reason to commit the military however. THere must be some additional national self interest. THank god you aren't making the military decisions for the country. ALso what the hell difference does it make whether you lost friends or not. I lost family in Vietnam yet I have no desire to seek revenge on them. I have family in IRaq, and thank god so far they are OK, but if they were hurt I would be angry but I doubt seriously I would want the government to seek revenge on Iraq for my loss.

The revenge factor pretty much places you on that same plain as we see the enemy on when it comes to getting even. Congratulations.

Well, yea, that's the cowardly way of modern warfare, damn collateral damage.

The more collateral damage, the more terrorists. It's like trying to put out an oil fire with a hose, it just spreads.

Re: US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

Well so far no confirmation of actual bad guys killed, and lots of somalis claiming civilians were mowed down, or given the good news, as some would affectionately refer to it as.

Is there anyway to confirm any actual terrorists were killed? Are we just supposed to have faith and go along with it?

As long as a child is killed somewhere for some reason a conservative will be there to call the action a success.
