US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

Quote:
ASHINGTON (CNN) -- A U.S. aerial gunship has attacked suspected al Qaeda targets in southern Somalia, a senior Pentagon official said Monday.

The AC-130 flew its mission within the last 24 hours, the official told CNN. The operation was launched based on intelligence that al Qaeda operatives were in that location, but there was no immediate indication of how successful the strike had been.

Additionally, the official said, the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has moved within striking distance of Somalia, but its jets have not been put to use.

If the intel was good, then it's about time.

Iraq has taken too much away from the search for AlQueda, IMHO.

I doubt it will take a whole day before we start hearing about how evil the US is for killing innocent Somalis during the attack.

At least there is finally an AC-130 overhead. Imagine - just imagine - how different the Battle of Mogadishu would have been with a Spectre overhead.

How many lives - American and Somali - would have been saved?

Re: US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

I wonder how we can afford to do this? Money-wise we don't even put the war in our budget so it's obviously all on credit. Troop-wise the Generals have said we don't have enough troops to sustain anymore in Iraq, so do we have enough to attack Somalia too?

How many wars can we start all at once?

Iraq was such a HUGE fuck up. If we weren't in Iraq fighting Iraqis instead of Al Qaeda in Africa and Afghanistan, we could have kicked the terrorist's asses by now. God I hate Bush for putting us in this shit place we are stuck in right now.

Re: US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

Flying an AC-130 over there and giving AlQueda the good news is pretty cost efficient.

Be happy - if the intel was good, then this is kicking terrorist arse.

Yes, we do. They are from Africa.

And the troops we need in Iraq are Iraqis.

We didn't start the wars Samantha. They were fighting before we got there. Those with a very limited knowledge of the subject are unaware of that fact.

We kill more Al Qaeda terrorists in Iraq than anywhere. Iraq is the central front in the war on terror.

Our success in Iraq is unprecidented in modern military history. Say thank you Mr. Bush. You owe him a big fat kiss Samantha.

If you hate him so much why don't you ever legitimately criticize him?

The timing of this is perfect - just two days before our beloved President's address on the "new and improved" strategery on Iraq. Go Bush!

We've already kicked a lot of terrorist behinds. Obviously the attack in Somalia required intelligence. We don't need to send in ground troops to make a hit. Clinton sent in ground troops back in the 90's & we all saw what happened. That's when we were labeled by Bin Laden, the "paper tigers". It was a C-130, a special opps air craft that made the hit. Also C-130's are used at home to fight forest fires. I doubt it cost that much money to take out a few bad guys.

I believe these types of attacks should come from the air. It doesn't put our troops in harms way & it's extremely effective, with proper intelligence.

But, if one single civilian was hit while eating dinner with the bad guys, here comes the media & probably you Samantha.

Re: US strikes suspected AlQueda targets in Somalia

Just more proof that a Bush response to terrorists is solely politically motivated. The Isamists have been in Somalia for months, but a Bush response is delayed until one day before his "big speech". Bush would be nothing without OBL.

It’ll take them a while to get to that; they’re starting out with the Christians vs. Muslims ruse.

Quote:
Somalia's government had struggled to survive since forming with backing from the United Nations two years ago, and was under attack by the Islamic militia when Ethiopia's military intervened on Dec. 24 and turned the tide.

But many in predominantly Muslim Somalia resent the presence of troops from neighboring Ethiopia, which has a large Christian population. The countries fought two brutal wars, the last in 1977.

On Sunday, gunmen attacked Ethiopian troops, witnesses said, sparking a firefight in the second straight day of violence in the capital, Mogadishu.
U.S. Gunship Attacks al-Qaida in Somalia - AOL News

“Second straight day of violence”??? When was the last time there wasn’t violence in Mogadishu for two days straight?
