I wouldn't throw NPR under the bus, just because the Bush Administration screwed with it's news segments.

I shudder the thought of living in America without PBS and NPR.
I disagree.
PBS is worthy of continued support.
NPR is not.

The difference is not in quality of programming, nor has it anything whatsoever to do with popularity of it's shows - it is simply because it is no different than commercial enterprises good or bad. To obtain public funding, I believe an organization must have an inherent and unique value to the public that cannot be commercially duplicated.
In my opinion - it is unlawful to continue to give money to NPR.

I like both PBS and NPR and think both are, on the whole, fair. But if these orgs cannot survive in the marketplace, they should do what real businesses do; cut back spending, increase revenues, or go out of business.

NPR is mainly an outlet to serve grape kool-aid to the ignorant people who are not informed or intelligent enough to know that they are drinking up anti-American propaganda.

It certainly shouldn't be funded by the taxpayers.

I love watching PBS. I don't listen much to NPR, but when I wake-up I listen a little bit to Wisconsin Public Radio.

Anyway, some great kids programs are on in the day time and when I come home on Tuesdays and Thursdays, I love to watch This Old House.

That means you want to see the end of FOX News?

I mean, FOX News is directly linked to the White House when news broke of the news packets coming out. Roger Ailes, Reagan's propagandist, was running this ship, and the Moody e-mails proves that it is a Republican spin machine.

Since it is heavily politicized... you'll agree to see the end of that faux news channel?

Oh, by the way, can you show with examples - like I did - how NPR is slanted left?

amen...why do we see it as a right for a media outlet to be able to live on government funds? ala AMTRAC..they are a basket case..they cannot turn a profit and are on taxpayer life support..their services are either to bad, they don't serve the public interest and/or an alternative exists that people prefer to use …..they should be left to die….

IF there is an audience for pbs and npr, then as alex said why they should be able to survive the marketplace on their own.,.without taxpayer help? ..and lets be honest here...npr is the only viable leftwing broadcast media on the airwaves that exists because......it lives on gov. funds..if not for you and me and uncle sam redistributing our funds to float it...it would sink ala air America.....you know, in santa cruz California, arguably one of the most liberal counties in the US, Air America was pulled by the local affiliate…know why? because the self admitted liberal radio station manger had to pull them as they sold zero adds for their broadcast slots…and the station had to survive by putting on something else that could sell adds in its time slot…...why should we subsidize failure IF npr cannot float themselves….?

And PBS? Well the latest casualties of the PC wars he the newly appointed manger of PBS (Tomlinson) had the temerity to introduce a half hour of what is viewed as Con. programming in the form of the “Wall st Journal report” as he looked at the prgmming. And found it very heavily slanted in favor of one side…BUT while the dems in congress want to re-introduce a bill on airwave ‘equality’ ( that would force stations to broadcast each point of view equally that was shot down in the Reagan era), they could not allow a half hour prgm. from the alternative side of things without hyperventilating and attacking the manager as a right wing zealot…..please….

Re: NPR and PBS facing more budget cuts, don't let it happen~!

Well, Reality does have a definite liberal bias, so it's hard to call NPR balanced.
But the news shouldn't be "balanced", with a good news from Iraq story, for every disaster that gets reported. The news should reflect the reality of a crushing defeat of American interests, where's the "good news" there?
