The motive for the firings is starting to emerge as STRICTLY political, however different the circumstances might be in each individual case. US prosecutor Carol Lam had apparently connected the Randy "Duke" Cunningham case DIRECTLY to the Office of the Vice President. That, my friend, is your classic smoking gun. And, as you so succinctly note, the probes of Democrats as opposed to the number of investigations of unclean Republicans is not even roughly comparable.

The firings themselves, while unusual, were NOT illegal...but they were indicative of something much deeper and more sinister. I cannot escape the feeling that we've STILL only scratched the surface here.

(And, by the way, I am in awe of your avatar...)
apparently connected??..I see.. The duke case is over with zero regards cheney etc..please....and if that was such a danger why didn't bush sack her as soon as the dukes issues started? ala jay Stephens and Rostenkowski?

if firing 93 people because they don’t carry water for you is okay, surely this is just nonsense...Gonzales should be fired for incompetence if anything...and mcnulty mispoke..but after todays hearing, the smoking gun did not appear..and tyring to regulate every law, yes law that the executive wields, is overturned due to the moments political expediency ..remember, there will be a dem pres. and a rep congress somewhere down the road...and the dem pres will be in the same straight jacket and I don't agree with that......even for a dem...the constitution re; exec. powers was written as it was for a reason...

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

"Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire!

At the US Senate hearing today, Alberto Gonzales' former chief of staff was grilled over low heat. In a story from Editor And Publisher today, the Attorney General was revealed as a truthless maggot for all the world to see. Excerpt follows...all emphasis is my own:

Specter asked about Gonzales' "candor" in saying earlier this month that he was not a part of any discussions on the firings. He asked about the November 27, 2006 meeting "where there were discussions" and Gonzales allegedly attended. Was Gonzales' statement about taking part in no discussions accurate?

"I don’t think it’s accurate,” Sampson replied. “I think he’s recently clarified it. But I remember discussing with him this process of asking certain U.S. attorneys to resign, and I believe that he was present at the meeting on Nov. 27.”

"So he was involved in discussions in contrast to his statement" this month? Specter asked.

"Yes," Sampson replied.

Sen. Charles Schumer then asked about Gonzales also claiming that he saw no documents on this matter.

Sampson replied: "I don't think it's entirely accurate."

Schumer: "There was repeated discussions?"

Sampson : "Yes."

Schumer: "As many as, say, five."

Sampson: "Yes."

Schumer then asked if Gonzales was truthful in saying Sampson's information on the firings was not shared within the department.

Sampson: "I shared information with whoever asked....I was very open and collaborative in the process."

Schumer: "So the Attorney General's statement is false?"

Sampson: "I don't think it is accurate."

How much longer the AG can survive with scorching sworn testimony like that now on the record is anybody's guess. I'm sure it can be measured in days at this point. Gonzo is expected at the party himself in about three weeks, on April 17th.

That is, if he can hold out with a whole host of his fellow Republicans now howling for his scalp...

Doniston: Maps are read like we read text, left to right, hence California becomes "left coast."

My question is how Chinese maps are read...since their text is read from top to bottom!

The boxing gloves would be for "taking out" the trash. Once that is done then I'd put on the cleaning gloves and start cleaning up the mess the Repugnocrats left after enjoying their little shindig!

It was a sight to behold... Sampson trying with all his might not to actually call Fredo a liar, but... his performance was sure an indication of WHY they're put under oath when they're asked to testify... he wiggled, he squirmed, he hesitated...

would he have had he NOT been under oath?

I don't thinnnnnnnnnnnnnk so...

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

I watched it too. I never knew cspan could be so riveting.

So when the Attorney General is dishonest, what kind of rule of law do we have?

He really must go, and NOW.

Did you see Shumer's face when he was asking the questions? He almost broke out in laughter. And when he was done, he and Specter looked incredulous at the testimony. Gonzales, torture/no habeas corpus/constitution destroyer needs to get the fuck out of our government.

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

Alberto doesn't have to testify until later this month, I'm sure he'll have a reasonable explanation, like "My dog ate my credibility"...........
