This is just the tip of the iceberg.
Speaking of the tip of an iceberg, let's not forget Gonzales was and is basically Bush's personal lawyer and as former White House council responsible for the conversion of existing emergency war plans into the nightmare we now know as the Patriot Act. The AG slot was his reward for obedience in removing our civil rights, quite a testimony for his professional integrity.

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

OK - as I post this it's after 12:00 noon on the East Coast .... Friday afternoons are used to "throw out the trash" by this and previous administrations .... toss to the media the news stories they don't want to see covered a lot. But if something happens this afternoon and it still gets a lot of coverage .... well, Plame is testifying on the Hill and is very credible ... be good to muddy the waters and distract people from that story.

Will today's story be that today was Alberto's last day as AG?

Smith is blowing in the wind, playing CYA with public issues while voting a party line on his senatorial responsibilities. He's one of my state senators who verbally caters to popular public opinion while retaining party loyalty to ensure campaign funding for 2008. Another party dog.

I'd say hopefully but fear what his replacement might be, another Ashcroft or worse.

I'd say count on it. Beware what you wish for . . . .

There's no way Bush would ever replace Gonzalez with an honest man.

Agreed, there's too much hidden agenda to ever make an honest person privy to those secrets.

Honest?!?! How about just plain old competent, someone who understands the constitution.

Too much to ask for?

We need to check if Gonzales has slammed his wife into psychopathic care ala Mitchell to make sure she keeps her mouth shut?

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation

Don't know much about Gonzalez but he comes off as a weasel and a phony to me. Then again pretty much every US Attorney General I can recall is like that. There is something about that job that requires tremendous weasel powers

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation

Birdzeye: The firings, as you say, were probably "technically legal." They were, however, unprecedented...which is what called attention to them in the first place. Something very large and very sinister is beginning to emerge there and I'll have an update post in a couple of hours.

Personally, I'd rather NOT have Gonzo around. His resignation/firing will focus attention on the criminal intent of this gang of thugs in the White House and, if we're lucky, set the table for the possibility of impeachment hearings. You have to understand that Mr. & Mrs. Middsle America aren't paying as much attention as we are; they're busy living their lives. Anything that sticks up and catches their notice about this is baaaaaaad for the GOP in 2008. That's where the focus should be...

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation

Donisten: I don't think Cheney's going to resign just yet...although if what Valerie Plame has to say is sufficiently incendiary, there's no telling. And lets not forget that Walter Reed mess!

This is getting VERY interesting...

Sorry, Samantha, but from this crowd, it is assuredly too much to ask for. They're as crooked as two bags of pretzels...
