That doesn't surprise me at all. Many of the notables in the Bush Administration were notable personages in the Nixon Administration as well.

Now what? I still hope we get to see Bush being taken out of the WH in a staightjacket, screaming and hollerin', and I hope it's televised! He's earned his right to it, that's for sure!

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

Wayward E-Mails take Center Stage

C'mon. You've got to admit that sorting out the labyrinthine twists and turns of the Gonzalesgate scandal is fun...in a perverse sort of way.

The White House seems to have caved to the Senate Judiciary Committee on locating those infernal missing e-mails...but they're being coy about whether they're going to turn them over. Let's keep in mind here that if they were deliberately deleted, in strict violation of the Presidential Records Act, then a crime was committed. Not that one more is going to make much difference at this point!

An even more interesting development, however, is the affair of Wisconsin attorney Steve Biskupic, who was targeted for removal...until he brought a bogus claim of voter fraud against Democratic governor Jim Doyle. It becomes, now, not merely a question of what the eight prosecutors did--or didn't do!--to get themselves bounced, but also a question of what the rest did to keep their jobs! Next to THESE bombshells, the piddling little lies of Kyle Sampson and Senator Pete Domenici pale into insignificance.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave...

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

Takes me back to the DNC in Chicago in 1968 "The whole world is watching, the whole world is watching..." Of course that was directed at Daley's private army, the Chicago PD, but the phrase came to mind.

Ain't it the truth. And the righties thought the Democrats and unions were bad. These guys got so much shit coming at them- and I ain't talkin' blowjobs- that they don't know whether to shit or go blind (Deep South saying). Their chickens aren't just coming home to roost- they coming home to shit all over them!

One thing is for certain though- if what the conspiracist crowd has said is true then something big will happen pretty soon. I certainly hope they're wrong. But there are certain aspects of Bush's- and Cheney's- personalities that I understand. Bush and I have certain commonalities in our backgrounds, and, having that understanding- you know, the "experience counts" thing- I would say that right about now Bush, at least, might be in a rather precarious state of mind.

Granted that distractors will think this is a rather minor point, BUT:

(quote)Separate accounts were created for about 50 White House aides who get involved in politics over the course of Bush's terms. The intent is to avoid violating rules that bar federal employees from engaging in political activities with government resources.( unquote)

So the following questions:

1. Created for whitehouse aids???--- OK, By whom? the Government??

2. the intent to avoid using government resources???? OK, how does this "NOT" use government resources?????

VERY GOOD THINKING< RIGHT??? "NOT"

Yep, Both tangled and MANGLED

Gem: So many people use the "lol" shorthand that I suspect its meaning has become diffused if not entirely diminished. Your post had me actually laughing out loud, big belly laughs. (I particularly liked your Deep South saying.)

As far as your nod to the conspiracy train of thought goes, I must concur. I don't think anything will happen soon because their supreme arrogance prevented them from seeing this sewage storm in the brewing...but I have considered it a definite possibility that, having assembled this concentration of power and money, our blighted administration would be loath to give it up rather than turn it over to Hillary. Just imagine a small nuke in, say, downtown Dallas and the 2008 elections getting suspended. Don't you recall our White House halfwit saying something about how wonderful it was that the 2006 elections were "going forward in a time of war?"

THAT chilled me to the bone...

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

Doniston: Those vermin never intended to pay attention to laws or rules. Their entire point and purpose from the beginning was to amass as much power and money as they could. Tom DeLay is the poster child for the unclean Republicans.

And has anyone ever asked the question of why it's necessary to employ at the very highest level a moral black hole like Turdblossom Rove? His whole point and purpose is to lie and sneak and hit below the belt.

That's what happens when you get a little too cocky. Experience counts- heavily!

Re: Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation

News Of The Day:

In The Scandal That Won't Go Away...

Well, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales scurried out of his pesthole long enough to drop off a written statement prior to Tuesday's hearing. He admits NO culpability and NO impropriety.

I'm betting a shiny nickel that they rip him a new orifice.

We can also expect that New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici won't be enjoying another term. Whether he resigns or whether he is simply trashed at the polls next year, his unethical interference in the firing of David Iglasias will surely be his undoing.

Don't forget to tune in to C-Span on Tuesday for a dose of REAL Must See TV!

I'm glad I provided a little humor in your life today, AOM.

I have to say that the statement "going forward in a time of war" didn't strike me the way it struck you at the time it was made, but then I remembered the 60's, when there was a deeply unpopular war, massive demonstrations, mass civil disobedience and riots in the streets. Yet I don't recall any President during that time saying anything about how good it was that we could still have elections in a time of war. I have to admit it makes me wonder why the half-wit would have even brought the subject up.

Because he mentioned the possibility of suspending elections in 2004. . .
