Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation

Yep, methinks heads will roll. I know Bush likes Gonzales and they are close personal friends and all that, but he has to play ball with a new antagonistic Congress now and they have made it pretty obvious that they are not going to put up with any crap from appointees. Bush is going to have to sacrifice some people. And Gonzales evidently has poor management skills if he can't even keep his own people in line. So who do you guys think the next AG should be?

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
Legally, this is much ado about nothing, but politically, this is part of a "Perfect Storm". The Bush presidency which seemed to benefit from serendipitous events like 9/11, is now entering a phase where everything they seemed to have gotten away with is coming back to bite their ass, one after the other, the skeletons in the closet are reanimating and they are coming out in a parade formation.
It's not just the heavy handed attempt to politicize the Justice Department, but the fabrication of the case for war in Iraq, the no bid contracts to political cronies, the wholesale replacement of competent civil servants with incompetent campaign supporters, one by one, each will become the issue of the month, until by November 2008, every swing voter across the country will feel they have a personal score to settle with the Republican Party. And unlike the seemingly endless investigations of Bill Clinton, these all have real meat, the US attorney scandal is actually the one with the least substance, but most voters understand that the law is not supposed to treat people differently based on party affiliation, and they are deeply offended that it has happened. The upcoming issues are ones with billions of dollars missing and thousands of lives needlessly destroyed, coming in formation, one after the other, each one worse than the last, and none of them easy to dismiss as a partisan witchhunt. Like Al Jolson said "You ain't seen nothing yet".

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
Gonzales will have to resign. Bush is stubborn and won't have to part with him until his back is totally against the wall, but there's no way that Bush is going to want to let us see hearings with all these judges coming out to tell the stories about how they were pressured by the White House to investigate Democrats. It's so ugly and twisted. They'll give him up soon enough.
You know, all this stuff that's happening right now is kind of how Nixon got impeached. People started resigning or getting indicted or investigated and it all lead to the top. This is about the most disastrous term any American president can claim to have. Even if there is no impeachment of Bush. |

Goober: Your trenchant comment begged for a longer response...
While I remain suspicions of the "serendipity" of the attacks of 9/11/01 to this very day--too convenient, too many things had to malfunction simultaneously, how did Bldg #7 fall and what REALLY hit the Pentagon?--there is absolutely no doubt that they capitalized on the event FULLY. They bullied Congress into a stupid Oil War, they stifled dissent, they stripped away vital civil liberties and they completely muzzled the press. Now their sins are coming home to roost. I think you are also entirely correct about the American electorate being furious and vengeful come November '08. Remember: This is the blighted administration who cannot admit mistakes, who cannot change course who cannot quit stealing. They'll make even more enemies in the 20 months until Election Day. The Republicans could nominate the reanimated corpse of Ronnie Ray-Gun wearing an Uncle Sam suit and they'd STILL get their heads handed to them...and all the greedweasels who dreamed of a permanent one-party state may just have to settle for generations of minority status. And it's going to take DECADES for Democrats to clean up the mess they've made of every single thing they touched over the last seven years. I wouldn't miss this for all the tea in China...

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
See how come republicans do the right thing and democrats dont? Like Janet Reno Fired 93 US Attorneys and NOT ONE DEMOCRAT CALL FOR JANET RENO RESIGNATION!! Just like Leon Panetta Fired Surgeon General Elders and NOT ONE DEMOCRAT CALL FOR HIS RESIGNATION! And The Media Made no big deal about it nether. Its All about Liberals think BILL CLINTON CAN DO NO WRONG! And Get this,,How come the Press wont Question Hillary about Her Husbands actions on Janet Reno? but oh yea they rather talk about Gonzales actions.

Would you like some cheese with that whine? You are so misinformed it is pathetic. And your attempting to pass this misinformation off as fact will not go unchallenged. All of these fallacies embraced by you and all the other " But Clinton....." fanatics have been discreditted countless times in every thread on this subject. #1 ) Your half-truth about Clinton/Reno firing 93 USAs. Here is the other half. Those holdovers from Bush 41 refused to submit their resignations, as is customary with new admins coming in. #2 ) Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders was replaced because the REPUBLICANS raised such a fuss about her advocating the use of condoms and masturbation in high school sex ed classes. Keep trying to obfuscate the problem. I know all the talking points have been exhausted, but you can't quit now. The future of the Republican Party depends on it.

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
Gonzales had a damn good reason to fire them. And one of those reasons was because they cost the repubicans the election.

These USAs refused to be used for political purposes. Their remaining neutral and independent by refusing to follow only the laws and prosecute only the individuals that BushCo told them to is what got them singled out. I would call what BushCo did an attempt to obstruct justice.

So, as a republican, you do not support equal justice under the law? Partisan justice is preferred in order to make certain of republican victory - or in order to punish republican defeat. Thank you so much for making that clear! ![]()
