In a statement issued earlier today, the White House said of Alberto Gonzales, "We hope he stays." Can you think of a more tepid supporting response offhand? I can't.

All we need now is for President Loser to come out and explain how he's got "every confidence" in his beleagured Attorney General...then we'll know for sure that he's doomed. The only thing that needs to be kept in mind at this point is that if he REALLY took down Carol Lam for seeking search warrants against CIA officials--as I reported earlier on this thread--then that is th very definition of obstruction of justice. And if he plotted with anybody to do it, THAT's conspiracy.

These actions are both (say it with me!) AGAINST THE LAW...

OK, I'm going to throw a wrench into the monkey-works, Unless Gonzallez resigns or is fired "Immediately" theren is no reason to connect his missing the budget meeting with his departure.

Note; that Runsfeldt resigned (was Fired) and was still doing his job (so to speak) a month later.

A new Attorney General is otherwise required to be chosen and then confirmed to become the New AG This would take time, and Gonzalles would likely continue until that time.

You are precisely correct. That's the very reason I prefaced my post with "Make of this what you will."

Consider, however that the Senate voted 94-2 this afternoon to close that Patriot Act provision which allowed these partisan firings to occur in the beginning. That's a pretty clear indication of how radioactive Gonzo has become AMONG REPUBLICANS, wouldn't you say? There is also going to be a Presidential proclamation tonight...and if he says he has "every confidence" in his AG, then you'll know Alberto's in the deep doodoo.
