Republicans Call For Gonzales' Resignation
Today, March 15, 2007, a THIRD member of the Republican Party, Dana Rohrbacher, has called for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to step down.
There's blood in the water, folks, and that US attorney firing scandal that the right has tried with increasing desperation to minimize--both in here and in the corporate media--is now a Force 5 hurricane! Gonzales' chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, bolted out the back door on Tuesday, even before Republican John Sunnunu of New Hampshire called for the ouster of the Attorney General. Yesterday, Senator Gordon Smith, also of New Hampshire, suggested Gonzales ought to take a hike. The Senate Judiciary Committee yesterdeay authorized subpoenas for five Justice Department officials...and Democrat Henry waxman has suggested that thery may also be issued for White House personnel such as Turdblossom Rove, who has been trying to crawl into a hole and pull it in after him on this. Looks like SOMEBODY'S got some 'splaining to do...

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
Many republicans are anxious to distance themselves from Bush and his legacy of failure.
What will be most interesting to watch are the coming investigations. The Bush Horde was up to a lot of under cover evil. Bush is already resisting demands to cooperate with Congress. This is just the tip of the iceberg. |

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
It's amazing that Gonzales has lasted this long. He's just a croney, a Brownie, he isn't qualified. He approved of warrantless wiretapping, torture, he says the constitution does not guarantee habeas corpus, the Supreme Court ruled against his denial of Geneva Convention law to detainees. And now this. What more does he have to do until he is impeached?

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
I hope he stays for a while, so the hearings get good air time.
John McKay from Oregon will testify that he was pressured to file voter fraud charges against the Christine Gregoire campaign when she won the Governorship on the second recount even though there wasn't any evidence of voter fraud. He was later asked by Harriet Miers, White House Counsel, to explain why he had "mishandled" the election. David Iglesias was called by prominent Republicans including a Senator and urged to file indictments against Democrats BEFORE the election. Carol Lam was fired because she didn't file enough immigration cases, of course it had nothing to do with sending Duke Cunningham to the slammer. The Republicans are actually doing the kind of stuff they used to falsely accuse Clinton of doing. And the beauty is, they thought they would be in power forever, so they discussed their activities in emails and letters and in front of witnesses, because they believed they would never be subpoenaed. SURPRISE!

All in all, it sounds like he's doing "a heckuva job".

Jason Marcel: Gonzales' ouster may not be enough...but we might just have to settle for it. There is a very real possibility that this could finally trigger impeachment hearings, though. The Rove connection is now documented with e-mails. This is just STARTING to get good.
BlackAsCoal: Greetings! Always a pleasure to hear from you. The Raw Deal Republicans up for reelection next year are the most endangered, of course; that's the entire House and about a third of the Senate. They can't get far enough away from President Poison fast enough! "Tip of the iceberg" indeed... SamInTheBurgh: Thank you for your correction.

Samantha: Alberto has NEVER been anything more than Dubya's private attornay. His knowledge of the law--and especially the Constitution!--is mediocre at best. He's only lasted because he's stayed out of the limelight.
Now he's toast...

Goober: I'm with you! I would love nothing better than to see this get splashed over every network as all the dirty details emerge. Even if Gonzo "cuts and runs," I think there's enough smarm to go around; Rove is in mighty hot water at the moment.
This is simply delicious!

I think it's arrogance that makes them sloppy

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
Good riddance. With all these current scandals surfacing, I am anticipating the next wave rather soon. Surfs up!

Re: Republicans Call Fro Gonzales' Resignation
I think it's arrogance that got them into this pickle. I'm of the opinion that the firings were technically legal, so BushCo thought they should be able to do it WITHOUT having anybody ask any pesky questions about what truly motivated the firings. We now know that the "performance" explanation was hogwash, and just made things look even more suspicious. They, and their supporters, seem pissed that anybody has dared to question their motives.
Frankly, I wouldn't be too disappointed if Gonzalez stayed on and served as an albatross around Bush's neck. If he resigns, we can't count on Bush to replace him with anyone who has some serious integrity. |
