Re: Florida

When I drive to work in the morning, I listen to conservative talk radio. When I drive home in the evening, I listen to liberal talk radio.

So, I'm driving home yesterday, listening to the Randy Rhodes (a liberal), and she was already talking about voter fraud in the 2008 elections, and how it will be why the Republicans will win.

I was simply stunned...

Given that elections are really just choosing between different versions of the same defective product, who really cares anyway.

It has become that way because people have stopped doing their civic duty and taken the time to educate themselves on who they are electing. In the age of technology, there really is no excuse for any voter to not know who and what they are voting for.

I'm not sure what you mean by "eight years too late." If you are referring to the 2000 election debacle that was not caused by electronic voting. In fact, all of these mandates from the Federal Government to introduce electronic voting was the result of the paper ballot snafu in 2000, the hanging chads.

That is part of it, but the other part is that many things are not debatable for some reason... you look at a poll of Americans and a majority consistently want some form of universal health care, yet you look at the debates and the topic is avoided in favor of stupidity like whether or not a candidate believes in God... or evolution.... its completely insane. Did you see the republican debate? There was a actually a question posed "Who does not believe in evolution"? WTF kinda moron question is that.... three candidates actually gleefully raised their hands as if they were proud of being retarded.

I wouldn't call the recount of a Presidential election nonsense. What I do remember that was nonsense, was the likes of Tom DeLay staffers banging on the doors demanding they stop the recount. People who weren't even from Florida telling Floridians to stop counting their own votes; now that's nonsense.

Then in response to the paper ballot "nonsense" (being about to recount), the Republicans instituted electronic voting, outsourced to private for profit corporations, who demonstrated little desire to protect the integrity of our election system, with little or no oversight or transparency; and absolutely no method to verify election tallies, or conduct recounts.

No more machines, unless they are by the people, and for the people. No more outsourcing our election process, EVER!

I hope this is the beginning to the end of HAVA; RIP.

It isn't the machines, it's the software.

Without open source software or an independent audit, they can't be trusted.

A little bit of research will tell you exactly why Florida has abandoned these machines.

See: Leon County Florida Hack.

I was there.

But until the HAVA is replaced, some form of the machines must be available.

I am glad Florida is doing what it can to get rid of the machines. In their present form, they suck.
