Yep, and he's considered a supporter of Bush&Co who's popularity ratings have plummeted to a point that even the Republican Party is starting to break with Bush&Co and the war in Iraq.

This should prove to be interesting!

And he has announced in the friendliest terms that he expects the US to alter its climate policies.

Its interesting to see the distance between American and French conservatives.

But Bush is gone in less than two years, and there is a good chance a democrat will win. Sarkozy will be in power for five years. I suspect that since French conservatism is quite to the left of American conservatism, that the still right of center democrats will have far more in common with the French.

I was wondering if the right wing extremists would still hate the French after this. I guess they do. See sumyd.

I think it is just silly to hate The French. It seems than many confuse politics with culture. The French are a great democratic western nation that happens to be a strong friend to our country although they do not automatically go along with us on everything which no country should. That wouldn't be very democratic. I do think this is a good move for France though. Their economy has been lacking compared to other in Europe for the last twenty years and they need somebody that is going to reform it rather than somebody that wants to maintain the status quo such as Royal.

Re: It appears Sarkozy has won

Another democratic nation split roughly down the middle. Roughly half of French voters are very unhappy today.
'Representative democracy' lurches onward.

French fries are bad for you, keep on with the boycott. After all, if you don't want to buy American potatoes...
