US Bombs Iran (with sanctions)!

With sanctions...gotcha. Apparently Bush is so warmongering that he decided to distract Iran with economic war while secretly sneaking in bombers.

U.S. Levels Sanctions Against Iran Military Unit

By HELENE COOPER and JOHN H. CUSHMAN Jr.
Published: October 25, 2007
WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 — The Bush administration announced a long-debated policy of new sanctions against Iran today, accusing the elite Quds division of the Revolutionary Guard Corps of supporting terrorism.

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in Washington today announcing new sanctions against Iran.
The administration also accused the entire Revolutionary Guard Corps, a part of Iran’s military, of proliferating weapons of mass destruction. While the United States has long labeled Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, the decision to single out the Guard reflects increased frustration in the administration with the slow pace of diplomatic negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program.

The designations put into play unilateral sanctions intended to impede the Revolutionary Guard and those who do business with it. This is the first time that the United States has taken such steps against the armed forces of any sovereign government.

Re: US Bombs Iran!

How does the USA put sanctions against a nation they are at war with?

You yourself have told us the the US and Iran are at war already...

Aren't sanctions redundant if a state of war exists?

Great. We have another Cuba situation in the works. The people are suffering while the US refuses to trade with them.

Re: US Bombs Iran (with sanctions)!

I am sure that the civilized world would be extremely happy if USA does not trade with Iran - and leaves the whole country in peace.

This news was a very typical Bush Hawks talk. Are you Americans proud about your leadership at the moment. If we would have such a childish stupid government in my country, we would make an end of it within a day.

Please, read that message #1 again and THINK! I am amazed that some media can publish this....

The United States is but one nation. If Iran is as wonderful as some would have us believe, certainly there will be aline of countries waiting to trade with them. In that case, why is it such a big deal that the US opts out?

Re: US Bombs Iran (with sanctions)!

I don't think the US is expecting anyone to go along with sanctions. They know this is a unilateral effort. But, it does allow the administration (or any administration) to say that they "tried" diplomacy by sanction, and it didn't work, so war is required.

I can't help but agree and say that so far this is following the Iraq blueprint:

1)- Demonize the Leader of the Country
2)- Claim he has or is after WMD
3)- Dictate that the country's populace needs to be free
4)- Impose ineffective sanctions
5)- Escalate the rhetoric
6)- I think we know what happens next...

They must just have an "Axis of Evil" guidebook that they're looking at.

We're at the "Fool me twice...shame on....you see we can't get fooled again" stage in regards to Iran and Bush's war push. It's last call for the stupid man to get his act together. America's leadership hopes that all the Good Germans will fall in line in America and everyone will just blindly follow.

This is such a huge mistake, punishing the people of Iran, strengthening the bond between Iran and Russia. Bush talked about if we want to avoid WWIII, but the evil is coming from inside the house people.

Re: US Bombs Iran (with sanctions)!

Nobody will go along with santions hurting the Iranian economy (and thus the Iranian people) except the US. The US fails to see that sanctions are hurting democracy in Iran and are creating tension between Iran and the USA.

The US represents 30% of the worlds economy. If you cant sell your product in the US, thats a big deal to most companies and countries.
