Brian Lamb

I think it is about time that Brian Lamb was officially recognized for his contributions to the USA. Today he was awarded a well deserved Presidential Medal of Freedom.

C-SPAN’s Brian Lamb to Receive Nation's Highest Civilian Honor - 10/29/2007 5:49:00 PM - Broadcasting & Cable

Quote:
Brian P. Lamb has elevated America's public debate and helped to open up our government to citizens across the nation. His dedication to a transparent political system and the free flow of ideas has enriched and strengthened our democracy
Congrats to Brian Lamb. I don't think he even knows the extent of the positive effects he has had on this country.

Re: Brian Lamb

He looks OK on the surface, but anybody that the Bush guy gives a medal to just has to be treated with suspicion. Lol.

It's like having a recommendation from Genghis Kahn on your c.v.

Before everyone else has to look it up, Brian Lamb founded CSPAN.

So Greta is beautiful, quick and eloquent. What else do you like about CSPAN?

And why would it suprise you that "hardcore righties" would appreciate what CSPAN has done?

Something about dictatorships and control of information will no doubt follow.

CSPAN, which was founded by Brian Lamb, makes the US political system more transparent.

For instance, because of CSPAN we know that pinkopressco's minions from MSNBC, CBS, CNN, FNC, NY Times etc. are all serving up the grape kool-aid. Lying and purposefully misrepesenting what witnesses say at open session congressional hearings by taking little soundbites out of context.

On the news shows and in the newspapers we hear that former UN inspector and leader of the CIA's Iraq Survey Group, Dr. David Kay, say's "we were all wrong" about Iraqi WMD programs. These 4 words were taken out of context and misrepesented by leftist media outlets and politicians in an attempt to back up their slanderous criticisms and accusations directed at our President. "No WMD in Iraq" the newspaper headlies and TV talking heads ridiculously screamed at us.

But of course those of us who set their VCR to record the actual Armed Services Committee hearings on CSPAN know that Dr. Kay actually testified under oath that the Iraq Survey Group found banned WMD in Iraq. And went into detail about them as much as he could without divulging classified information in the non-classified hearing.

As Dr. Kay explained it under oath, when he testified (in the hearing televised on C-SPAN) that "we were all wrong" about Iraqi WMD programs, what he meant in that context is that the Iraqi WMD threat was greater than what was described in the Oct. 2002 NIE presented to congress before the vote on the Iraq War Resolution, not less than what was described. But the leftists spun it around to imply just the opposite to the public by taking his 4 words out of context, claiming there was no Iraqi WMD threat!

We also saw former UN weapons inspector Dr. Terence Taylor testify under oath that UNSCOM discovered bannned WMD and WMD programs.

We also saw DIA Director General Maples tesify under oath that they found WMD in Iraq, and continue to find WMD in Iraq. And expect to find more.

We also saw Colonel Chu from the Army's National Ground Intelligence Center testify under oath about the WMD the Army has recovered in Iraq.

Without CSPAN televising the entire hearings (rather than little soundbites taken out of context ala the leftist media) how would we know that the leftist-controlled mass media and leftist politicians were lying to us, and continue to lie to us, about the Iraqi WMD issue?

At another hearing we saw Valerie Plame testify under oath that nobody ever told her that her identity as a CIA agent was classified information under the relevant statute. That was a bombshell that the leftist media certainly isn't going to report because it does not jibe with their political agenda.
So if it wasn't for CSPAN televising the hearing we never would have known that Plame was not a "covert agent" as defined by the IAPA.

That is good to hear.

I have the greatest respect for him: his accomplishments as well as his character. I am happy to read that he is the same "in person". The CSPAN network is an oasis of civility, with its high standards, its commitment to thoughtful discussion and its depth of content.

Lamb is a man who listens to his guests and responds without the unctuous flattery of Charlie Rose or the self-serving posturing of Tim Russert or Chris Matthews. I just wish Booknotes was on again - happily, the website includes most of the archive.

Traditional conservative are drawn to the format, style and tone of the network. It would be considered old-fashioned and is definitely not trendy; the conversation is thoughtful and serious. At our best, conservatives appreciate the past. I know that has positive as well as negative connotations - but in the case of CSPAN I believe it is positive. However, there are many people on the far left who are "hooked" on CSPAN - as well people across the spectrum.

No one would ever CSPAN of being biased. That in itself is an extraordinary accomplishment.
