Oh, the Pity....State Dept wants meeting cancelled because...

Quote:
The lawyer for State Department Inspector General Howard Krongard asked on Saturday that he not be called to testify before Congress on discrepancies between his statements and those of his brother over the brother's ties to the Blackwater security firm....

..."There is no legitimate purpose to be gained by publicly pitting two brothers against each other," Barbara Van Gelder wrote in a letter to Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of the government oversight panel...

...Waxman's committee is examining allegations by current and former officials in Krongard's office that the inspector general thwarted probes into waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq, including alleged arms smuggling by Blackwater.

And Krongard's attorney wants to cancel this meeting because "There is no legitimate purpose to be gained by publicly pitting two brothers against each other..."?

Puh-leeeeze!!!!

I wonder what the real reason Krongard's attorney- and presumably Krongard himself- for wanting the meeting cancelled is?

Well I guessthat this shall set a precedent for anything that is law--anything with brothers to the issue is an automatic dismissal. Sheesh!

It is a sad trend, but that's what you can expect with a Republican White House.

Know what's another sad trend in this country? The fact that the conservatives won't come out and address this topic. I know it's true cause I posted the same thread on two other forums yesterday and the conservatives are avoiding the threads like the plague there just like the conservatives in this forum are.

What does that mean???

Wrong assumption, Chassisman. The conservatives in those other two forums are indeed responding to my other threads and posts. Hell, even Matt Larson replied to a comment I made in another thread in this forum today. So it appears that it is the nature of the topic of this thread that is the main source of the problem, and not so much the poster who started this thread.

Nice try though.

Care to discuss the issue at hand?

Re: Oh, the Pity....State Dept wants meeting cancelled because...

It seems like a pretty lame reason to try and avoid testimony.

I am not aware of any familial privilege that would in any way preclude the use of one brother's testimony against another.

Matt
I do believe there is a law that dictates that a husband or wife cannot be forced to testify against each other. But that's not the same as using one brother's testimony against the other.

And, yes, it was a pretty lame excuse for requesting the cancellation of the meeting. Which is why I asked what the real reasons for requesting a cancellation of the meeting were.
