McGovern urges Bush/Cheney be impeached.

Quote:
As we enter the eighth year of the Bush-Cheney administration, I have belatedly and painfully concluded that the only honorable course for me is to urge the impeachment of the president and the vice president.

After the 1972 presidential election, I stood clear of calls to impeach President Richard M. Nixon for his misconduct during the campaign. I thought that my joining the impeachment effort would be seen as an expression of personal vengeance toward the president who had defeated me.

Today I have made a different choice.

With just 'one more year' I guess that apathy will win the day. The crooks will go free and set an example for other crooks.

Quote:
From the beginning, the Bush-Cheney team's assumption of power was the product of questionable elections that probably should have been officially challenged -- perhaps even by a congressional investigation.

In a more fundamental sense, American democracy has been derailed throughout the Bush-Cheney regime. The dominant commitment of the administration has been a murderous, illegal, nonsensical war against Iraq. That irresponsible venture has killed almost 4,000 Americans, left many times that number mentally or physically crippled, claimed the lives of an estimated 600,000 Iraqis (according to a careful October 2006 study from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) and laid waste their country. The financial cost to the United States is now $250 million a day and is expected to exceed a total of $1 trillion, most of which we have borrowed from the Chinese and others as our national debt has now climbed above $9 trillion -- by far the highest in our national history.
A fine record, and one that should be brilliantly advertised prior to the elections. Greater masters of crookery and ineptitude are waiting in the wings.

Yes, George McGovern himself "dispensing" of his landslide loss to Nixon is oh-so credible, but he still lost in a landslide. I am surprised he is still alive - he has been such a mover and shaker in the political arena since his landslide loss. Has-been. The Post really had to dig for this.

Re: McGovern urges Bush/Cheney be impeached.

I myself belive that our inability as a people to stand for justice in this instance has opened the door for whatever this administration wants to do. Our apathy has resulted in such an abuse it will be years before we know what cost, financial and morally we have paid to support the evil empire that is our government today. I see that it is easier to try and imagine its not that bad and soon it will be gone, however we have given a green light to all the greed whores in power to take whatever they can...after all they can see we aren't smart enough to hold anyone accountable. We can shift focus and make snide commets to make us feel better, but until we become willing to prosecute and hold these thieves in sheeps clothing accountable for their actions we wil get what mindless sheep deserve, quit trying to pass the blame around and face the reality of the day, stand for truth or be trampled by deception.

Why do the warmongers keep winning? McGovern would have had a better 4 years than what America got with Nixon/Ford, right? The peace candidate lost to the lying warmonger who kept escalating an unnecessary war. Ridiculous. Americans are brainwashed to be afraid of some existential threat at all times while it is bad foreign policy that causes blowback and the violence that comes at us.

Bush/Cheney should have been thrown out a long time ago. Too late now. Besides, you need to commit adultery to get impeached nowadays. Starting wars in third-world countries that never attacked us is still open to debate.

You don't know too much about Nixon's role in the Vietnam War, do you?

Re: McGovern urges Bush/Cheney be impeached.

Yeah I don't know about war mongers. 911 was a pretty real event. All the conspiracy theories are funded by the opposition. They even had me going till I figured out the best arguments came from the people who were involved in doing it ie Islam (bastards!). I honestly think that if people would let the government handle it the war would not have been as bad but everyone has to stick their head in and criticize the government for defending our country. People that witnessed 911 from Mexico(idiots, idiots, idiots)(part of the middle east now?) and middle eastern muslim (yukum spit barf!) countries were burning the US flag and cheering. These are the people that want more blood from the US. Bill Clinton just plays cowardly but lets them plot against us. I can't see any wrong doing in Iraq - not with so many people working against the government. There's anti-US terrorist running around the world and our government is not at fault for this the terrorist are.
Opec countries (oil countries like Mexico, Canada, Russia too) are just loving every little stab we are getting. I would like to see an alliance of countries to ban against them that would include China, USA, Germany, Japan. All the countries that have to import from these monsters. What Bush/Cheney is accused of is small talk compared to what the Anti-US alliance is doing. They reacted to an enemy plotting against us nothing more.

The prospect of Impeachment kind of had it's window. If we were to undertake it now, the procedings might last beyond the inaguration of the next president.

If it were to be done at this point, it would be out of spite, not practicality....

Everyone still crying it is out of touch. We have term limits here, so there is no need to behead the king.

The nation needs to move forward instead of backward. Bush doesn't need to be impeached for history to categorize him as a presidential loser.

The Soviet Union was an "existential threat"....that is the type of blind ignorance and willful disreguard for reality which led to McGovern's stunning defeat. McGovern was not a "peace" candidate, he was a pacifist candidate who would have led western civilization down the path of progressive surrender to an evil every bit as real and malevolent as the nazis in WWII.
