Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

Quote:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The CEO of a company whose employee is accused of improperly looking at the passport files of presidential candidates is a consultant to the Barack Obama campaign, a source said Saturday.

John O. Brennan, president and CEO of the Analysis Corp., advises the Illinois Democrat on foreign policy and intelligence issues, the source said.

Brennan briefed the media on behalf of the campaign this month.

The executive is a former senior CIA official and former interim director of the National Counterterrorism Center.

He contributed $2,300 to the Obama campaign in January.

When asked about the contribution, a State Department official told CNN's Zain Verjee, "We ethically awarded contracts. Political affiliation is not one of the factors that we check."

On Friday, the department revealed that Obama's passport file was improperly accessed three times this year, and the security of passport files of the two other major presidential candidates -- Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican John McCain -- had also been breached. Watch the secretary of state apologize for the breach »

Three contract emplyees are accused in the wrongdoing, including the one who works for Analysis Corp. and who was disciplined. That contract employee accessed McCain's file in addition to Obama's. None of the contract employees was identified.

Isn't that fascinating? One of the folks who looked at the files works for an Obama campaign advisor.

To refresh everyone's memory, when this story broke, the Obama campaign was very quick to blame this on the Bush administration:

Quote:
Bill Burton, a spokesman for Obama's presidential campaign, called for a complete investigation.

"This is an outrageous breach of security and privacy, even from an administration that has shown little regard for either over the last eight years. Our government's duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes," Burton said.

"This is a serious matter that merits a complete investigation, and we demand to know who looked at Senator Obama's passport file, for what purpose, and why it took so long for them to reveal this security breach," he said.

Pretty convenient for Senator Obama, huh? This "scandal" breaks just as he's facing some uncomfortable questions about Rev. Jeremiah "God DAMN America" Wright.

And now, it turns out that the snoop isn't some evil Bush Administration operative subverting Mr. Obama's rights - it's an employee of his own trusted advisor.

Hmmmmm. How convenient.

Interesting, no?

Matt

Re: Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

Yeah whats the deal? Why would Obama need to investigate his own passport file through subterfuge? So odd. It seems more likely that people trying to gain access to Obama might have gotten a job at the firm of his friend. But I'm also like...who the fuck cares about passport files. I really don't understand.

its called - we are going to access the files and blame it on the repubs....make a huge stink outta it and get the assinine press off our asses over the pastor thing.

nice plan but the funny thing is - it probably didn't work and just makes him look all the unworthy to be president.

It's called "smoke screen" and "shift the debate". Hussein is in the box and needs to get the focus shifted. Old Jeremiah has tripped him up badly, showing the true past of BO, and he needs to change the attention to something else.

Does this really surprise anyone????

Re: Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

Could this have been an attempt to take public attention off the fact that Obama is a member of a subversive organization called the UTCC? Maybe.

But of course the CNN article in the OP cites an anonymous source. I am very skeptical when a political organization such as CNN cites an anonymous source because half the time it ends up being proven to be bullshit or never confirmed.

Re: Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

Only a political novice would make such a diversionary kind of move like having someone they know on high to breach the files and then blame the Bushies. Why would you stir something up only to have it revealed that it's your guy who did it?

It doesn't make sense. Obama probably needed a diversion of some kind this past week, but his speech scored and then he got Richardson's endorsement. He's now just 13 points behind Hillary in Pennsylvania, where he was tied with her a couple months ago, but as recent as last week she was up by 19 points.

Well lets all take the tin foil off our heads for a moment and just see what the investigation yields. So, strange though.

Wow Matt, I'm surprised that you'd suggest there might be a conspiracy at play here ... seeing as you often ridicule others for suggesting such things. Anyway, I heard Condaleeza Rice on the radio yesterday discussing how people have also looked into McCain's and Clinton's passports. I wonder how this plays into the Obama conspiracy?

Re: Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

The conspiracy nonsense was introduced by Obama's campaign staff, as quoted above.

Seems like that explanation is a lot more silly now, though.

Personally, I think the whole thing is much ado over nothing.

Re: Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

IMO !

We have for once produced a presidential candidate (Obama) whom at this moment appears to have ignighted a spirit of cohesiveness in the American people of "purpose and intent" to change the faulty direction of our government. Remember this as the the jingle of "money", the specter of "fear" and the "siren song" of the "war wolves" attempts to discredit this attempt to save our nation. McCain and Hillary appear to be on the same "payroll". Time to Damn the Torpedos. Full Speed Ahead !

No, This thread instead seems very silly.

The complaint about the bush administration was that the info that there were repeated unauthorized accesses
did not propagate up to a level where some action should have been taken to prevent the accesses from happening.
This complaint is still as valid as ever.

There were 3 accesses and in here we are talking only 1 of them.
Even this 1 case seems like a long shot.
An anonymous source claims that the CEO has personally adviced Obama?
That is miles away from knowing that the whole company has been staffed by 100% Obama supporters and that they are conspiring to create stunts like this.
It is quite likely that the company employees are about 33% GOP supporters, 33% Democratic supporters and 33% independents.

If that would not be true, but instead the employees would all be Obama supporters, that actually would be very good proof for Obama.
There seems to be huge number of extremely qualified military and counterterrorism people working in that company and
if Obama carries that much support in those circles, then all claims that Obama would not be qualified as a president to fight terrorism would be proven total nonsense.

I know by reading the papers that the CEO of my company where I work is an active supporter on one political party around here,
and it has absolutely no significance to people I work with.

I am sure that whoever that is that does anything illegal like this,
has somebody around him that could be connected to Obama and somebody that
could be connected to Clinton and somebody that could be connected to Bush himself.
I would not be at all surprised if the person that accessed the files had an cousin that was once married to a personal friend of Karl Rove.
Also his highschool best friends sister could be a diehard Hillary supporter.
Of course I just made those up, but I would be very surprised if something like those were NOT true.

You seem not able to recognize a very, very flimsy evidence even when it smacks you in the face.

its called vetting...something they should have done months ago.... they are looking for any material that may be damaging etc. to get ahead of it.......I attach no blame or acrimony, only that the horse is out of the barn.

and clearly obama cared, why else would he get all outraged....lets have another speech telling us its a race thing, that ought ot help him

but he did invstigate his own passport through subterfuge didn't he? sounds kind of Hillarish to me...or maybe hes just another politician?

Change we can beleive in!!

Re: Obama Passport-gate getting more interesting

You guys are kidding yourselves if you really think Obama or any member of his staff deliberately caused this controversy.

Sounds to me like some folks with security clearance got just a little too curious. Perhaps had they found something, they could make money on that info selling it to the opposition? Who can say? But to blame Obama is completely ridiculous and shows, once again, the depravity of the GOP and her supporters.

Like you guys.
