Re: Oil hits $114/barrel - No end in sight.
That can in fact be a factor but not the only one. The Financial Times reported the other day that Russia now thinks it's capacity has peaked and they are the second biggest oil exporter behind Saudi Arabia. Even though more sources are available the oil companies are having to go to harder to reach places which means increased cost to pump it. Ultimately many factors are converging that will cause oil to go up and up. The only hope I can think of is maybe stability will eventually come to enough places that are pumping less than they can because of conflict but then again that has been a hope for a long time.

Re: Oil hits $114/barrel - No end in sight.
This BTW is the Iranian's argument for why they need nuclear power, because oil is going to be too expensive to burn, they expect oil to settle out at around $500/barrel, which is still cheap for use as a chemical feedstock.
In the meantime, they know oil isn't a renewable resource, so they want to leave some for their descendants.

Re: Oil hits $114/barrel - No end in sight.
Nuclear power for Iran while we suck on their teet, whats wrong with this picture?
( btw the way, I don’t exactly buy the fact that they are seeking a nuclear power capability just for power in and of itself anyway, but the dichotomy here is clear in respect to what you said).

Re: Oil hits $114/barrel - No end in sight.
Hate to be the one who brings President Retard into this, but what did we expect? When you elect oil people, what else do you think could possibly happen? A barrel of oil was $27-28ish 7 or so years ago, and now it has quadrupled. Had everyone voted for Col. Saunders, eggs and chicken would have gone up. Vote for Aunt Jemima, and syrup would've went up. It's not like demand has skyrocketed in the last few years. What is it, 1.5% or something like that?
It's corporate greed and price fixing and a terribly weak US dollar. But it's also lazy citizens who are like frogs in the boiling pot. People could carpool more, vote for different kinds of politicians who want to prop up electric cars and alternative methods of fuel, but no one does. Everybody just bitches and then they all bend over at the pump. How long will the lazy public stand for it is the real question? How much longer will the general public take to being bitch-slapped by the people they vote for? Are we so lost that we can't fight it and actually change things? |

It is a 35 gallon total tank, and Diesel here is up to 4.299 per.... Next up is the price at the food store......... and if one thinks that it is bad where you live.... try the Bush of Alaska where the prices are most likely 4 to 5 times higher. There are things that each of us like to have and it is going to cost more, while we make less. But a number of the posters here think that if the Dems get in that things will be better.. just keep that lie in mind when voting this year,, true change can only happen with a real change in DC with another party that is not in power right now.

They have 5 kg of HEU in Tehran that was a gift from the USA, it's in the core of a research reactor. Nuclear power makes so much sense, I hope the congress does something about the antiquated US laws that make nuclear economically unfeasible in the US.

I think a lot of the stigma about Nuclear power in the U.S. is due to the "Not In My Backyard" perception those plants have.
