Re: Myanmar officials seize UN emergency aid
The lesson to be learned here is for Americans - will the government to take away our civil rights and liberties in the name of "patriot acts" until this country becomes a totalitarian country like Myanmar?

But then we would have a problem with Iraq, so wouldnt things be worse? Which is a bigger priority for us, natural disaster in Myanmar or terrorism in Iraq?

I bet the lie-berals are feeling pretty stupid now for causing McCain to get rid of the members on his staff who were lobbying for the Myanmar regime. We could use their connections to the military government now.

Also Myanmar and Iraq are completely different.

Re: Myanmar officials seize UN emergency aid
Somehow, in a situation that doesn't really involve the US, it still gets blamed. It doesn't have a relationship with the Burmese junta, so America should share some blame for the lack of aid flowing into the region. What if America did have a relationship? Then it would likely get knocked for recognizing such a brutal regime, whether or not the US could open up the borders to aid. And especially if aid still did not flow, America would get blamed for enabling the regime's existence (and the consequent lack of aid) because the US dealt with the junta. The United States simply cannot endure any mass-media situation without some degree of blame, apparently.
Meanwhile, Asian powers have been clearly supporting the junta with business and weapons (I think Chevron is the only 'American' company really involved with the junta, since American sanctions prevent others from doing so). But no, it isn't the Burma junta's fault for committing war crimes and preventing aid, and it isn't China, Russia, or India's fault for supplying the regime with arms and business; it's Bush's fault for not getting more leverage in Burma by, say, outbidding China by giving them even more weapons, or outbidding India with economic and infrastructural aid.
