What day of the week is it? Oh yeah ... another mass shooting in the US

Once again we have another mass shooting in the USA. How many does that make it for the year now? By my count we're in to double digits - and that only counts the incidents where more than four people were shot. At some point the US needs to really examine what is it within its culture that drives so many people to so regularly commit mass murder. No other nation on the planet can match the US in that regard ... and that is one national trait that you're welcome to keep, and not "export".

And that makes the frequency a weekly one?

I was being facetious Si. Perhaps if I had titled the thread 'one mass shooting every three weeks" that would have made the issue less confronting? It's not something to be proud of, at all.

Interesting how you choose to not comment on the topic at all though. Perhaps it's this head-in-the-sand approach that is partly responsible for the mass shooting mentality that seems to exist?

And how the hell is one to know when you are being facetious?

What a silly thing to say. It's hard to say anything sillier. Is your purpose to be silly or to attribute this "pride" to me? Either purpose is unattractive.

I wonder how long it will take until the first person suggests that next time you attend a childrens play, bring a firearm with you - in case you need to shoot someone.

@ noahath and mabus: Simple solution for you gents. Don't set foot in the U.S. It's clearly far too dangerous for you. Other than that, it's hardly your concern and a ridiculous basis upon which to take shots at Americans.

Thank God you live in Aussie land then......
IMO, I could give two shits if foreigners complain about our shootings and find it amusing that certain individuals go out of their way to address/advertise every time a shooting takes place.

Also, I'm kinda' wondering what this is doing in "Breaking News in Politics".

The "crime" section, maybe?

I see you edited in additional comments after my response to you, so I'll also comment on them.

How the hell is it that I have my head in the sand?

Is this some kind of compulsion on your part to attribute false qualities to all posters or just to me?

And, your hint that this mentality that you TRY to attribute to me will lead ME to do a mass shooting is borderline slander.

(I guess it's only OK to lie about other posters when one is a mod?)

Yet another pointless thread filled with pointless generalizations.

I'm on this board for six years now and I have heard this ridiculous suggestion over and over again. I'm just wondering how the relatives of the victims would react if someone said it to their face.

My daughter was a freshman at Santana High School in 2001. I know the father of one of the boys killed, and he's never suggested that people shouldn't be able to own guns. He bristles at the suggestion...

I already imagined that the americans might have created a society in which people really should be armed. It's just that for someone from a society with more or less working gun control, this sounds like a declaration of moral bankrupcy. People here bristle at the suggestion that we should arm our citizens.
