Our forum influenza experts, Alex and SamintheSouth, are certain that Swine Flu is 100% harmless, and so there is no reason to look at the below map, and absolutely no reason to declare a pandemic.


Round circles are confirmed cases, squares are suspected (but untested) cases. Color indicates concentration of cases in a town or city.

Remember Avian flu, and how it was much ado about nothing? Comparing the above swine flu map with this avian flu map proves that there is nothing to worry about.

I don't think anyone said it was 100% harmless, just not as bad as some people think it is. You posted a world map but didn't provide a legion as to what those diff. shape and color dots mean.

I never said I was an expert or that the Flu is harmless, I just don't care about it. There is a difference.

PS- I will be out living my life today in the real world, and I won't think about any politics, pandemics or flu. CYA!!!

I'm no expert but my gut seems to be more accurate than the experts.

Is it? Do you even understand what the Pandemic threat levels mean? We are at Phase 5 - here is what that means:

Phase 5. Larger cluster(s) but human-to- human spread still localized, suggesting that the virus is becoming increasingly better adapted to humans, but may not yet be fully transmissible (substantial pandemic risk).

That is EXACTLY what is going on right now. The WHO, CDC and the Health Depts are encouraging people to do what they can to protect themselves from infection right now, and are working to prevent any current infections from spreading and thats ALL we're doing. The media is the only organization causing panic right now.

Since the flu season is pretty much over, we will see less about this in the coming months, but we expect a resurgance come the fall/winter and believe it will be a lot worse than it currently is.

You can blow this off or not, its up to you. People seem to be of 3 minds right now: 1. Don't care 2. Panic 3. General Interest

Perhaps it's time to ratchet down the panic on this particular strain.

I live in The Woodlands TX in a suburb just North of Houston. The elementry school 1/2 mile from my house closed yesterday because of 3 suspected cases in students. My boyfriend works with a man who's kids go to school there although they are not as yet sick. YIKES

FoxNews did a stupid thing yesterday, which is a good example what all media has done:

Headline: WHO could raise pandemic to level 6...everybody will die!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reality: WHO said they have no plan to raise the level at this time, but don't rule out it could raise in the future. (which more or less is a non-comment)

So you can see, the media takes comments, twists them into the most grandiose headline as possible....aggravating.
