Re: British embassy staff arrested in Iran

An absolute outrage.

In 1979, they used "student" proxies to invade the US embassy and torture the staff. Now they're dispensing with all pretense, and doing it directly.

Re: British embassy staff arrested in Iran

It's an act of war if they don't return the embassy officials to their native soil. But if they are locals working for the embassy it's an iffy situation.

Re: British embassy staff arrested in Iran

Apparently they took iranian employees without diplomatic status. But its still an obvious provocation.

Yes I am. Action without forethought can certainly lead to disaster.

Right, and apart from the fact that a too obvious interference from the West could weaken and not strengthen the iranian opposition ( and that is what the regime seems to be counting on) matters are more complicated since the detainees seem to be Iranians themselves and not foreigners.

The UN better write an official letter saying they don't like it...that'll teach 'em.

The reasonable way to work for the release of these people is like in the case of the iranian/ american journalist two months ago through diplomatic channels, INCLUDING the UN.

Or our troops they captured last year.

Hope we don't rise to this; we can't give the Iranians a get out clause over the current unrest.

The opposition believes, as we do, that governments govern with the consent of the governed. It's obvious that the Iranian regime disagrees, and will resort to violence against anything that questions their power.

How are we weakening the opposition by agreeing with them and supporting them?

They won't do anything forceful to get their people returned should Iran refuse. Don't extrapolate.
