2 more cents, if you (general you, not a specific person) are taking assistance from the government, and you are still living in poverty, with no end in sight, then you are not using that assistance in the way it was intended.

There is no shame in taking government assistance, and it comes in many forms, not just welfare and food stamps. Government assistance is designed to give you a boost that you could not give yourself on your own.

Example, to expound on my earlier post, the reason I live in BFE is because our rent house was flooded with 4 feet of seawater during Hurricane Ike last year. My landlord opted to sell the property to the county, bam, instantly homeless. I received a very low interest loan from the SBA that helped me purchase a new home. Now things are GREAT. I know lots of people who took their grant money from FEMA (please note, grant money=not paid back, SBA=paid back) and high tailed it to the casino. Now they are homeless and broke again.

Two examples of government assistance, two very different outcomes.

I am an advocate for social and economic equality and fairness and you cant stand that. So instead of taking a good hard look at the inequities of america and the capitalist system and doing somethign about them, the real problem in this country. Well get over it the american dream is a lie there is no cake and socail and economic equality is a joke as people are kept down and oppressed unless they are of the right social class. The opportunites in this country are far and few between for someone to actually work their way out of poverty without some kind of assistence from the govt.

As for tellign me to sell my computer and get offline thats just another way of trying to silence someone who is saying hard truths you dont wanna hear.

This is a sick and disgusting country that is heading for a major fall. The poor of this nation will eventually get sick and tired of being walked all over and rise up and do somethign about it. Thats one reason why the democrats won last year.

Good grief! What a pity party! Where are the violins? Your problem from what I can see is that you don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of and in your mind no one else should have those things either.

I REALLY hope you do become a social worker. You will not improve your lot in life one whit because the pay in that field sucks. Not only that, you will get to deal with people just like yourself.

You will be sucked dry and still won't have a pot to piss in nor a window to throw it out of.

Or, it might just be another (accurate) way of telling you that, if you are trying to complete a degree, support a family, and find work, spending your time on the internet bitching about people's water drinking preferences might not be an effective use of your time. I can't speak for others, though. Personally, I don't care one lick how you spend your time.

Apologies for intruding into the quarrel between Rahmota and Steve, but I should say this: it would be extremely ironic, as well as funny, if, after some cataclysm affecting the whole USA, Steve, despite his alleged vast wealth, starves to death in San Diego, and Rahmota, despite his modest wealth, survives with food that he grows on his land.

Couple of points:

Fisrt, I don't have "vast wealth". I do pretty good, though.

Second, a person can live longer with water, but without food, than he can with food, but without water.

Besides, I have guns. I can kill my food...

Rahmota, back to the core of the topic, what problem do you have with Steve spending his money on bottled water? We have concluded that he is not being deceived by them. So, what is the problem? Why can't Steve spend his money on it? Just because you consider it a bad deal? If so, what must those of us who don't live within a stone's throw of your well do when we're thirsty?

When disaster strikes I bet they don't mind having bottled water.
Unless you live near natural spring or have your own well, water came from somewhere and was processed. Always chance have more problems with children, elderly or people with an immune deficiency drinking well water.

The fact that you people are morally bankrupt enough to engage in ad hominium personal attacks against someone who disagrees with your ideology is disgusting. That the moderators not only endorse and encourage this sort of behavior but actually participate in it is filthy.

And yeah I think it would be rather ironic that the urban capitlaist scum would be the ones who would die in a cataclysm but the ones who would truely work together and pull together for the good of each other in a communist manner would be the ones who would live. And just FYI I also have firearms as well as bow and arrow and much better I have loyal friends and associates and fmaily members. One thign about communists there just isnt one.

..uh...bottled water is pretty much a necessity all over the world, even in many European countries.

Particularly France, which is really why most of the bottled water originally came from there. Its really ironic in that we see them as so high class with the famous water and wine but the main reason they have these things is that they can't generally keep their water healthy enough even for themselves.

Most American tap water, in fact, competes well on taste with the best bottled water in the world
