H2-WHOA! Australian town bans bottled water sales

SYDNEY – Residents of a rural Australian town hoping to protect the earth and their wallets have voted to ban the sale of bottled water, the first community in the country — and possibly the world — to take such a drastic step in the growing backlash against the industry.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090709/...tled_water_ban

The first step to finally get that stupid yuppie scum crap off the market. At last a community with some values. I've always thought it was totally retarded to buy bottled water like that, especially some of that high end fancy premium bottled water. Especially given the lack of regulation as found by the FDA recently. And given that most of that bottled water is just plain old tap water with a premium charged for it I'm glad to see this.

If only there was some other way to easily store and transport fresh drinking water from areas where it is abundant to were it is sparse.

Re: Yuppie water loosing favor good.

Its water it should not cost people an arm and a leg for clean fresh drinking water. It should be free or at an extremely low cost. If it has to be sold it should be sold at the maximum legal price of 25 cents per gallon. No profit should be permitted.

Theres only one big pipe that I can carry around, but I would only use it to transport water well after I drink it.

So Rahmota, we get that you hate capitalism, but do you have anything of value to say?

Re: Yuppie water loosing favor good.

Good move for developed places where its abundent but as other posters have pointed out bottle water is still needed in some areas. Personally I believe that if people want to waste their money on something which is so abundent they can.

If you can bottle and ship water for 25 cents a gallon, why don't you start a company and do it? You'd own the market, and the other water bottlers would go under.

It makes me so sad that you apparently have the answer for how to get rid of these awful water bottling companies, but you let them keep destrroying the earth. The Goddess must be so disappointed.

Re: Yuppie water loosing favor good.

That sounds like an absolutely ridiculous ban, if you ask me. I'm not a huge fan of bottled water, either, but if people want to buy it, they should have the option available to them.

We buy it. It's convenient, especially if I'm going to want a drink in the car...

Re: Yuppie water loosing favor good.

I'm gonna come out with a new brand of bottled water, called STFU water.

If you want it, buy it. If you don't, don't. But if your purpose in life is to tell everyone what to do, STFU
