They're supposed to handle bullets flying at them during combat but they can't handle a homo in the same room with them?
Hard to say exactly how much it would hurt unit cohesion really, I guess it would depend on the unit. Let me ask you this, are you in favor of a co-ed military? I mean women being uncomfortable living and showering with men is really just as illogical as a straight man being uncomfortable living/showering with a gay man.

No, if you banned Southerners we'd have to reinstate the draft.

Banning openly gays hasn't seemed to harmed the military, not one iota. I guess that's the point, isn't it?

Well you don't have to ask a black man if they're black. It's not as if we asked them to put on makeup so they'd look like a white man. So why should homosexuals have to hide? And why would you ask someone if they were homosexual? So you could ask them on a date? I don't see how asking anyone if they're homosexual is a valid question in the first place.

Again it's a backward policy catering to ignorance.

I don't think there is a question whether or not gays can be/should be integrated into society, at least among thinking people, as was the case with blacks back in the day.

Sometimes you have a good tart reply, that one was weak. Maybe a 2 at best. You seem emotionally spent today.

It's about principle, something that you're clueless about, and, since it seems to have escaped your powers of observation: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/08/op...amin.html?_r=1

That's my point. I don't believe anyone should ask your sexual preference in the military, I fully support don't ask don't tell.

Principle? Like freedom to not show up for work when you don't feel like it or changing jobs when you like, or maybe even freedom speech to tell the world where you're at and exactly what you're doing?

Ends when you enter the military. What's important is the military's ability to carry out a mission not you and the NY Times. America can live without either one of you, in fact never miss you. But, without our military America would cease to exist as we know it. Some things are more important than your petty little prejudices, you and the Times.

Yes, principle. And no, freedom to not show up for work is not a principle, so it's not clear what you're talking about.

What's important is being intellectually honest enough not to further the preposterous lie that America servicemembers are such candyasses that they fall apart and cannot complete missions because a homosexual is in their midst.

Irrelevant and emotion-based whining. When you're ready to offer real counters to my posts, do be sure and let me know, hmmmm?

Irrelevant, as it's not the subject we're discussing. I see you're growing less and less capable of doing so.

American can and will progress past cringing, fearful people such as yourself.

Re: Big Gay Speech by President Obama Tonight!

I read the thread title and figured Obama was going to talk about window treatments for the white house and whether you can wear brown shoes with a blue suit.
