1st There was Cash for Clunkers, now free Golf Carts

Looks like a little loop hole in the tax credit for buying electric vehicles in many states will let you buy a new Electric Golf cart for almost free, thanks to the Stimulus Bill. Maybe someone should have read it.

What's the problem? Golf carts don't take up much fuel, and they're great for people who never really go anywhere outside their communities.

edit: From the article...

Of course we know that if/when Obama does something like this the partisans will complain anyway.

When for one thing, they have no where near the required safety features.

The CEO's of the Golf Cart companies are kill children for profit! Children!

For christ's sake this is the second sentence in the first paragraph of the article...

The IRS allows the full credit – $4,200 to $5,500 – to be applied to electric golf carts as long as they are road-worthy.
Reading clearly isn't your strong point.

And the requirements of "road-worthiness" are? What golf carts would you say fit those requirements?

It probably varies from state to state. They obviously wouldn't be alowed on state highways, much like scooters and mopeds are restricted, because they can't get up to the minimum speed required.

Also found this after 3 seconds of google searching:

Quote:
What is a LSV?
A Low Speed Vehicle is a Federally defined class of street legal vehicles that must go at least 20 mph but no faster than 25 mph. They are smaller and are limited to 2500 lbs GVW. They are required to have a number of safety features, such as head lamps, tail lamps, turn signals, brake lights, side reflectors, seat belts, approved automotive windshields. Over 45 States allow LSV’s on public roads 35 mph or slower. They are desirable since they can offset the use of a larger gasoline powered vehicle.

Well, it's apparently just the government giving money away -- to golf cart sellers. I mean, that's easy to do I guess.

Re: 1st There was Cash for Clunkers, now free Golf Carts

I'm hoping they come up with a free airplane program. I always wanted to learn to fly, so maybe after I get laid off, I'll have time to take lessons paid for by a retraining program and then the government can give me a plane, with a credit card to get fuel and repairs and stuff, and then I can fly to the south pacific where I hear the island are really cool. I guess it will have to be a sea-plane, right?

Thanks, Uncle Sam.

well, as long as its an electric aircraft I bet you can slip it into your tax forms somewhere.

Because driving around in a golf cart is more fuel efficient. That's just my assumption though.
