Unemployment: 26 year High and rising.

I am so glad we are having a recovery.
After extending unemployment compensation yet again, with little hope of employment gains anytime in the near future...we are approaching a "welfare-like" state.

10.2% unemployment today. The average worker isn't logging a whole 40 hrs a week either, that means employers could get more work out of people they currently have on staff and thus a low incentive to hire.

"mouth breathing" voters got what they asked for...hope 'n change. All the jug-eared Kenyan can do is campaign and blame Bush. All Congress can do is spend more money than we have.

    Excellent point.
There are many, many workers working 6 hour days.

AND not have to pay benefits.

I knew the number was coming out but if you had asked me yesterday I would have said 10% flat..this is pretty much a ½ point jump, in one swoop.

I didn’t think we’d get to 10.2% till feb. or March and said so….seeing how everything effects everything else in the world of logic, I wonder how this will affect the health care vote this Saturday, but they live in the world of illogic soooooooo.

More people not working ...means less people paying income taxes ....means less money for the gubmint to spend ....means higher taxes for the rest of us ....means less money we have to spend on stuff ....means more people get laid off........

How is all that hope and change working out for you guys?

This was planned from the start... this Administration wanted this, planned for it, worked for it, designed the stimulus bill to provide it, and have played politics with the pain and suffering of the very people that voted for them.

    Bug fuckers...

    This isn't Obama's fault.
He has certainly been doing the wrong things...however he took over an already crumbling economy..no one could stop this wreck from happening.
What I will concede is the Obama administration's policies are prolonging the bad economy and lessening the chance of a recovery in 2010.

Jobs always follow last in a recovery. Just like when the recession hit, the jobless rate was much lower.

People need money to spend to "grow" jobs.

    How do we do that?

    Yeah well thats impossible.

The cause of the recovery are the jobs, the jobs that get people spending again because they have a job.

I don't know why people just don't get that.

People need money to spend to stimulate the economy.

The best way to grow jobs is to GIVE the working class a large stimulus check and tell them to buy shit with it.

They do that the economy would recover with in 6 months to a year.

Naw, that wont happen though because those that have the power to do that HATE capitalism and believe the nanny state government is the only answer.

Yes, that's true - there is a lag time and those lag times have been getting longer.

The difference this time is that there is no growth at all in the private sector at this point, and the private sector is the main engine of job growth. There can be no job growth until the private sector starts to grow again.

Re: Unemployment: 26 year High and rising.

"The unemployment rate for production jobs, such as factory workers, jumped to 14.5% from 14.1%. The jobless rate for workers in construction, maintenance or natural resources industries such as mining rose to 15.5% from 14.3%."

Which means, no recovery on the horizon.
