POLL: How many of you really wouldn't mind if the Federal Government shut down?

Did you know that for the month of February alone the Federal Government is showing a deficit of 248 BILLION dollars for that 23 day period. Now while we have democrats and republicans fighting over budget cuts--democrats of course really not wanting to get serious about making any cuts. Obama has conceded to a mere (6 billion dollars) while Harry Reid only wants a 4.7 billion dollar cut and republcans want a 63 billion dollar cut--and they all are in a Mexican stand-off over this.

So my polling question to you--is "if" essential services were provided--meaning people would still get their social security checks--medicare and the military would be paid for--really how many of you would really mind if the Federal government shut down--in order to get this budget crisis fixed?

Keep in mind that the issue is to raise the debt ceiling to 14 trillion dollars so they can keep of this smoke screen that everything is O.K.--when it is not. Your children and grandchildrens futures are at stake here. If this keeps up .44 cents out of every dollar they make will go to fund the Federal Government. Interest alone on the federal debt so far--will be costing a 20 year old $120,000 in interest alone. Right now the Federal Government is borrowing .46 cents out of every dollar it spends.

    9-trillion-deficit.jpg

Now up to 14 trillion dollars.

Democrats badge of honor is "borrow and spend" and they are not going to give that up. They love to wear their badge of honor as it is who they are, and their proud of it. In fact Democrats what to increase entitlements as they believe there is no end to the supply of money.

Isn't that like 70 or 80% of the budget?

There are certain things, like federally funded synchrotron centers and certain NASA projects where the cost of shutdown would exceed the cost of continuing to operate for the several weeks and months while they sort out the budget. I'm not in favor of having things cost even MORE simply because it might make some people feel better.

We survived the last "shut down". Wasn't that during the "Clintonian Golden Age"?

Let the m'fer burn! We have plenty of money coming into the treasury every month to fund not just critical, but constitutionaly mandated services. Everything else needs to go.

If it's the Democrats' "badge of honor" why's the deficit jump so high so fast when the Republicans are in charge?

You know the fucking whiners who keep crying that they don't want to saddle the children with debt, wouldn't look like such complete fucking hypocrites if they weren't also whining that they didn't want to pay for the things that the government is doing now or has already done for their benefit.
Seriously, if you oppose borrowing and leaving the children to pay for stuff, then support higher taxes to pay for what we are actually doing now.
Your concern for the kids is so touching, especially when you decide that cutting back on their school lunch programs and reducing the amount spent on their education is the way to reduce what they will owe.

Whining about the debt that you have racked up, and cutting the money spent on someone else, shows just how sincere you are in your "beliefs"

And what will higher taxes give you? Have you ever thought for a minute what that means to the average person?

Less money to live on. Oh I know you're just wanting to punish the rich and tax only them for being successful, but answer a question honestly for once in your life.

If you raise taxes on rich people, how will they respond?

They`ll pay them and they`ll still be rich. I don`t think anyone is out to punish anybody else. It`s about dealing with reality. Americans' tax burden is lightest in developed world - USATODAY.com

This is about as hypocritical as it gets Forplay, no other way to call this one my friend.

Everyone knows the standing orders of economic policy under Republican control in recent times has been the same "borrow and spend" (call it "print and spend" or whatever you need to) that you accuse Democrats of wearing as a badge of honor. Just to add a little to the mix here you cannot ignore that under ole W there was plenty of "borrow and spend" going on all the while selling the US on the whole tax cuts will pay for itself in future taxes on economic growth. Not only did that end in epic disaster and never was realized, but we ended up with plenty of debt during their time of control. No debate on that one, the debt went up and at the time was in respectable numbers in comparison. Granted Obama is smashing those records as we speak but that does not negate all the debt damage Republicans did to us as well. Republicans are no better about economic policy and fiscal responsibility than Democrats these days. And if you really want to debate how Democrats look at the never ending supply of money you can add Republicans to the list using the same mentality under their control as there is plenty of supporting evidence.

So you expect them to just pay it and do nothing but pay it?

Show how much you know about the mentality of people who are successful. If they have a business, they'll pass the cost on to their employees, or the people who buy their products.

    Or both. That's reality.

Forplay is confused. The Democrats' mantras isn't "borrow and spend," but tax and spend. Both parties like spending, because the people like government services and reward politicians who provide them. Democrats pay for the spending. Republicans want to have their cake and eat it too.

This is why I'm far more critical of republicans than dems. Republicans are the party of cut-taxes-and-spend. The dems are the party of raise-taxes-and-spend. While both are negative, the republican strategy is the worst of the two since it ultimately digs a hole we might not be able to climb out of.
