The GOP promised Americans that they would cut 100 billion out of the budget this year--so they fought back and forth and settled on 38 billion which then ---because of fuzzy math--turned into a measly 350 million dollars--out of a 3.7 trillion dollar budget--with a deficit just this year of 1.7 trillion dollars.
Sarah Palin was at a Tea Party event over the weekend in Madison Wisconsin and just BLASTED the GOP--with this statement:
She's right. The 2010 election year was a mandate to cut the deficit-government spending and the size of government. And we all should be holding our elected officials feet to the fire. The only ones that voted against JUST cutting 38 billion out of the budget were Michelle Bachman and several other freshmen congressmen who wanted much more. The GOP capitulated to go along to get along with big liberal spending policies. If they keep this up--they will lose Tea Party and conservative support.Palin derided the GOP "establishment" and accused them of simply rearranging "the deck chairs on a sinking Titanic." And in a line that will surely be repeated, she used the Wisconsin women's hockey team as an example of the way the GOP needs to learn to fight: "Like a girl."

I think the TP won't see such support in 2012. It will instead be all about the unemployment, as we lose more jobs. Folks suffering will not give a shit about deficets or the debt. It will become an etheral entity, IMO.

Sarah Palin has nothing left to do with her poloraziation but appeal to the Tea Party, partisan rant about Obama spending, and get all upset with House Republicans not somehow being able to pull off cutting government size in one budget while only controlling the House. In other words, Palin and the Tea Party are living in a dream world to expect being able to change course so drastically on a single budget. Especially when even the most cutting type of plans the Republicans can come up with still fail to address additions to debt all the while hanging onto temporary tax cuts. Palin is only right in two aspects and it is probably by complete accident. One, the recent budget cuts are were a real joke showing clearly that both sides have no interest in dealing with debt spending, tax levels, and budget concerns. In other words working both sides of the equation, spending and taxes. Two, the effect is nothing is getting done right now with any seriousness about addressing our ever increasing debt. The issue I have is, does Palin (well, outside of her lack of experience outside of town mayor as another issue but that is another OP and thread) have a detailed serious plan related to government size and debt?

Was it? I could more reasonably argue it was a mandate to do something meaningful about the economy and restore jobs... And it doesn't make sense to try that by giving more money to rich people so they'll make stuff when nobody has any money to buy anything.
The banks understand this, that's why they're sitting on the bailout money instead of loaning it out as it was hoped they would. They're not stupid, they deal in facts, not ideologies and the fact is that right now investing in ANY business is not a good idea, and it won't be until the government acts to restore the MARKET rather than the producers. The producers remain in fine shape and will, until finally gold ticks down and that bubble collapses. They'll probably ask that they get no taxes at all at that point to "save America".
Most Americans don't really understand the deficit as anything more than an abstraction, and deficit = bad, so the pubs and teapartiers can garner lots of support when they say "lets reduce it"...When these people are still out of work a year later, however, and the only thing Congress wants to do about it is cut off their unemployment and throw gramma into the street then they can understand that too. They've been fucked once again, and 2012 will be another year to fuck back.

The tea party actually put in conservatives/liberatrians to run and actually lost some races where if they siomply put in a RINO they would have won.
2012 will be about spending!!

I liked that she wasn't a career politician running on a Presidential ticket and think she makes a lot of good points but I wish she would leave politics altogether. Much like the Hollywood limousine liberals, she manages to turn even serious issues where she's making a legitimate point into a side show attraction. She always reminds me of Sean Penn when he showed up in New Orleans with a flack jacket, boat, and personal photographer to rescue people after Hurricane Katrina only to need rescuing himself after his boat took on water within seconds of launching. Some people should just stay away from serious issues.

What you continually fail to understand is that all politics is local. There was no mandate. There never will be a mandate. No matter how many times you click your heels together and wish for one, it won't happen.

I'm quite good with both math, and history. You're smirking at the Tea Party for not passing bigger cuts, and there's....how many Tea Party people in office? And....how many voted against the non-compromise compromise?
You should be proud of your liberals. They succeeded in mobilizing the press and demonizing this to the point nothing much is done. So we careen toward bankruptcy a little bit faster.
Why you want to destroy this country, I'll never know. But I guess it's because the philosophy of the liberal is simple. Everyone is equal, the only time everyone is equal is when they're all dead.
