GOP Stripped Flu Pandemic Preparedness From Stimulus

Uh oh. Woops. Looks like the GOP stuck their foot in their asses again like with the volcano monitering and pretty much every other time they've opened their mouths.

GOP Stripped Flu Pandemic Preparedness From Stimulus

Quote:
Famously, Maine Senator Collins, the supposedly moderate Republican who demanded cuts in health care spending in exchange for her support of a watered-down version of the stimulus, fumed about the pandemic funding: "Does it belong in this bill? Should we have $870 million in this bill No, we should not."

Even now, Collins continues to use her official website to highlight the fact that she led the fight to strip the pandemic preparedness money out of the Senate's version of the stimulus measure.

Naturally, it's tough to keep an economy stimulated if productivity gets diminished by a pandemic. And, hey, it turns out that the lack of a stable and well-funded public health infrastructure may not be so good for economic recovery as a whole:

Get over it. The CDC already has budgeted money for outbreaks.

How dare you bring reason and logic into a thread created by Danny.

Re: GOP Stripped Flu Pandemic Preparedness From Stimulus

lol..

I think the better question is how is PANDEMIC PLANNING a STIMULUS?

Are you admitting the stimulus was filled with stuff that was not intended to actually stimulate the economy?

I'm sure that you were applauding her for her "bi-partisanship" when she caved and voted for that monstrosity. Your hypocrisy now is quite unbecoming.

Re: GOP Stripped Flu Pandemic Preparedness From Stimulus

Ok anyway.. lets have some fun....

Michelle Malkin Schumer opposed flu pandemic funding in stimulus, too, you morons

Sorry to interrupt all the liberal blogosphere’s unhinged GOP-bashing over conservative opposition to flu pandemic funding in the porkulus bill, but…

Well. Just an inconvenient reminder:

Quote:
“All those little porky things that the House put in, the money for the [National] Mall or the sexually transmitted diseases or the flu pandemic, they’re all out,” Schumer said.
“Porky things.” Er, a rather unfortunate choice of words then. And now.

Leaves a bad taste in your mouth, doesn’t it?

Wow. There is actually one sane person at the Daily Kos. Probably won’t be there for long, but give this person credit for pointing out that the left-wing attacks on Republicans over flu pandemic funding are utterly ridiculous. The money they are shrieking about was included in a different bill passed by the Senate — and in fact, was funding requested by George W. Bush:

Quote:
(1) It’s a good point to make that Collins somehow thought pandemic preparation money was not an economic issue deserving of inclusion in the stimulus package. But Collins was for the money being included in some other form. Now, I think her reasoning is stupid — pandemic prevention is part of a recovery plan. But it’s not like she was against the very idea of it.

In fact she has voted for a number of bills that included pandemic prevention in the past, including the war funding bill of 2007. This undermines her point about which basket the funding is in, but also proves that she’s not against the idea of it.

(2) Relatedly, this money is actually the tail end of money ($7.1 billion worth) that President George W. Bush pushed for in 2005. So this is actually Bush money! To pin all this on the GOP is, thus, a little silly.
The blogger also pointed out Schumer’s opposition. And adds one more point:

Quote:
4) Importantly, the vast majority of the pandemic prevention money was passed in March’s omnibus bill, which passed the Senate by (uncounted) voice vote.

Statements like “thanks for the swine flu” or “I hope Susan Collins’ kids get swine flu” are crazy responses to her opinions and the reality of the current funding situation. Just asinine. Same as actually calling or writing Senator Collins. Why? Why are you doing this? Schumer went so far as to call the pandemic prevention funding a “little porky thing,” are you calling him? Are you yelling about him? Additionally, the money has been appropriated, so what’s the point?

Be truthful. Be fair. Be as comprehensive as possible

Shhhhhh!

Or, just perhaps the GOP is wise enough to know money is already there.

You knooooow there was help for that little-poor-innocent bird in the stimulus bill.
As I understand it, it was removed in the middle of the night by GOP operatives.
I would call NBC if I was you...it will make the nightly news's top story...we need to nip this in the bud before anymore of God's [choke...gag...sputter]...forgive me I hope I didn't offend you for bringing religion into this...anymore of the natural result of evolution get's hurt!!

Say I meant to ask you, you have any info on environmentally friendly ways of making a new tie-dye T-shirt? I just can't bear to put that poison down the drain...I feel so guilt for having done that in the past...
