Re: looks like Boxer's re-ellection bid could be interesting
SAN FRANCISCO -- After Arnold Schwarzenegger replaced a Democrat in 2003to become California's governor, fellow Republicans were hopeful the former movie hero's popularity would help arrest a long decline here.
But six years later, Republican voter registration continues to fall, and now many in the party are pegging their hopes on two former corporate chief executives: Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina. Ms. Whitman, former president and CEO of San Jose-based online-auction company eBay Inc., in February threw her hat into the ring for the 2010 race to succeed Mr. Schwarzenegger when his second and final term as governor ends in January 2011. Ms. Fiorina, former chairman and CEO of Hewlett-Packard Co., this month registered a campaign committee called "Carly for California" for a potential 2010 challenge against Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer. The star power of both CEOs is likely to give them some momentum. An August Daily Kos poll gave the 53-year-old Ms. Whitman 24% support among California Republicans ahead of the June 8 primary, topping support for her two main challengers, state Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner. California GOP Pins Hopes on Ex-CEOs - WSJ.com Carly? HP ran her off. If you're going to run as a former CEO...you have to show success, not failure. Carly blew it...they had to replace her for her bad decisions. Once she was out of the loop, things improved. Not to be conceited but I predicted HP would regret voting Carly in as CEO. The Board of Directors later agreed and she was out. "So what the hell do you care what HP does...got some HP stock?" Screw up the company, lose their ass for them and then walk away with 21 million dollars. What the hell for? You lost...that means you take the hit. So why would Carly want to be a broken leader in California? Do to the state of California what she did for HP? The Golden Bear is already on the ropes...they sure don't need Carly. If all the GOP in California has is Carly...they deserve to disappear from the national scene. Time for that viable third party Only in California... |

Re: looks like Boxer's re-ellection bid could be interesting
A failed CEO running for office somehow seems fitting. (Remember bush fits this mold as well)
That way they have a track record at bankrupting large entities so it won't be a surprise when they do it in congress. |

![]() Yes, they will do everything they can, and they may succeed. But Fiorina has a great deal of high-level corporate experience, and in the coming elections any business experience will be a plus. The economy will be the most important issue for several years. Boxer does try to look and act tough, like Allred. But she comes across as Allred's not-too-bright sister. When she does the "feminist from hell" routine, she comes across as ludicrous. When she attempted to humiliate General Walsh, she just made an idiot of herself. In hard economic times, there is little patience for smug self-righteousness. There is a growing pragmatism in the US. There will be a strong backlash against that sort of childish, elitist far-left nonsense and Boxer is poster woman for political correctness. |

Her main selling point against Boxer appears to be shes not Boxer. The "anyone but Boxer" contingent seems to be fairly high in CA right now. I actually liked boxer in the ~2002-2004 time-frame (I also liked McCain pre-2000 before he became a bush apologist/wannabe), but lately I haven't seen much to like from her. |

Re: looks like Boxer's re-ellection bid could be interesting
The investors were not awed by Carly, the stock was down, the Compaq deal went south and it was not the direction HP's real visionary turks wanted the company to travel. She was invited to step down and the company fortunes improved. Carly was simply not the "man" for the job. But...she reaped a fortune for being wrong, leading in the wrong direction, making a bad deal with the Compaq deal, of which, she was told was not the way to to go. Smug arrogance and prima donna behaviour got her ass canned. She was in over her head. Many a man has travled the same path.
The RNC is thinking amiss if they hope to tout Carly for Boxer's senate seat. She should take her 21 million dollars and find another gig. Californians...BEWARE...Carly is not the one for that post. Having gone to HS, college and lived and worked in California for years, it is my happy report that I have been absent from that area (both south and north) for many years now and have no plans to return. It was once a great and beautiful state but now...well, for those of you who still live there, I'll let you write the Chamber of Tourism phamplets.

Skype founders file eBay lawsuit
Published: Sunday, September 20, 2009 The founders of Skype filed a lawsuit against eBay Inc. Friday, a move that could spoil eBay's $2-billion deal to sell a controlling stake in the Internet phone company to a group of private investors. Skype founders file eBay lawsuit :: Local :: PostStar.com The façade was saying Meg bought Skype for $2.6 Billion then eBay sold it and made money to make it look like a good deal. The deal has fallen through and so should Whitman for Governor, she can buy her office to get a leg up to be President. Boxer needs to get in Big Time to thwart off the eBay Billionaire that is looking to be president. |
