Americas Best and Brightest at work in Congress..

This is Rep. Hank Johnson, (D)GA-04, discussing the possible ramifications of increasing the Marine presence in Guam.

Youtube

Please note that Johnson was an Attorney and a Judge prior to becoming a Congressman. He is also, though this may have no bearing on things, a product of Washington, D.C. public schools.

Not sure whether the LOLing smiley or crying smiley would be more apt. Some pretty major inner turmoil occurring on my end.

Re: Americas Best and Brightest at work in Congress..

I saw a few news items on this and some were explaining it by saying the congressman is ill. He has chronic Hepatitis C. So, I checked the symptoms. Nope. No symptoms that would lead someone to think an island could tip over. Aha! It's the medication for the Hepatitis C. Nope, nothing there, either.

What amazed me in the video was that no one laughed.

Even Rush said that Hepatitis C causes 'mental lapses' and that we (Republicans) should not be picking on the man.

When Rush refuses to take a shot at a Democrat and tells others to lay off... that there is news.

His staff called it "an analogy".

Personally, I don't care whether it was an analogy, a metaphor or a pineapple. It was STILL the stupidest thing I have heard a public official say since the Dallas city council guy got pissed off about the use of the term "black hole".

Re: Americas Best and Brightest at work in Congress..

There is no possible way I will accept this as a "mental lapse". A mental lapse is when you think "1+1=Tuesday" or that the bank teller is Abraham Lincoln. Having the cognitive ability to connect that an island is on water, that things that float on water can tip over and then thinking the island floats on water is not a mental lapse, it's being a complete ignoramus.

LOL, one of the rare times I think Rush should talk crap about someone and he doesn't.

Re: Americas Best and Brightest at work in Congress..

This is probably similar to what Guam looks like if you'd drain the Pacific ocean..

What were you saying about capsizing Mr. Johnson?

Holy shit, this guy needs to go back to 3rd grade.

An analogy....really?.......If he had made this statement today, however...Johnson simply could have said "April Fools!!, I'm just pretending to be an idiot.....Just Fucking with ya Admiral"

Unable to watch the clip at work - is this similar to that "series of tubes" comment about the Internet?

Similar, but utterly worse.

I can forgive people for not being tech savvy, but this guy has fundamental issues with elementary school science, basic physics, and common sense.

iif hep c causes mental lapses of that magnitude perhaps he should be expelled from congress for being unable to reliably discharge his duty. after all what if he had one of those lapses while making a key vote etc?

Clearly, this is a man we need to head up a committee on how do best deal with problems like this.

Ah ... sorry, missed that you posted this and posted it myself.

What can you say, "Stupid is as stupid does." Have to give kudos to the admiral for not laughing.

It's about as possible as shooting an 18 in golf.
