    Congress should be

working to close all loopholes and subsidies in TAX LAWS.

Republican represenativess and senators would be wise to get off their ass and act.

It is one way to affect the ridiculous tax system--too complex for congress to attack.

Closing loopholes and subsidies will in effect raise taxes, but it is the fair thing to do and will be backed by the Dems.

    And revenues will increase.

And with this super group trying to come up with spending cuts so as to avoid across the board spending cuts in upcoming days,

what I propose seems simple, fair, and a way for the 2 parties to ACT in agreement!

    Re: Congress should be

I for one never understood how self-professed conservatives could fall into line with all the tax exemptions for things like marriage, home ownership, etc.

Using the force of the government through the IRS to financially reward people for things like buying a house or getting married is an example of liberal social engineering, plain and simple. It's no different than the government saying, "We're going to pay you for doing things we feel are good for society."

This is a liberal trait and something that I can see democrats lining themselves up behind, not conservatives.

Being married or owning a home should be reward enough in themselves. They should not be things that the government, through financial encouragements, is pushing.

    Re: Congress should be

Tax laws --loopholes and subsidies-- have long been governments way of directing taxpayer to do what the government thinks will help(usually mostly putting money in someones pocket).

And we all should know that the Fed Government is usually wrong, ineficient, and money wasting with over-spending OPM(other peoples money)!

For example: oil company subsidies were to encourage oil companies to drill. We all realize that oil companies are doing just fine and dont need such subsidies.
What they do need is permits to drill(only one given by BO thus far is to a Brazilian Co)-- but Obama places his alegiance in the environmental special interests
over his concern about improving the economy and reducing dependency on foreign oil. BO changing the way Washington politics work--Bull Shit!
But what else do you really expect from The Liar and Distorter in Chief!

"What they do need is permits to drill...only one given by BO thus far..." Guess you got your info from Ms.Bachmann-

PolitiFact | Michele Bachmann claims there has been just one new oil drilling permit issued since Obama took office

No,I got that info out of my head( a very reliable source), but altho Bachman has made many gaffs and certainly is not a viable candidate, she cant be wrong all of the time.

The problem is that Congress never will. The true power of being a Congressman is being able to write the tax law of the country. If I can tax you or not, you'll pay me big bucks to exempt you. That's why our tax code is literally thousands of pages long and growing. You can actually order a copy of the tax code and they'll send you it. I believe it's 90 books.

But the thing is this: you and I can sit around saying what Congress should do. They don't particularly care. Unless and until we throw them out one by one and they get the message, they won't do it. What should be done is a unified and fair tax code, which is a flat tax that reads as follows: "everyone in the United States will pay [fill in the blank]% on all income they acquire this year." See how simple that is? It's so simple that the retards on the left can't understand it.
