More news from the "no kidding" desk, Congress hit an all-time confidence of the people low. All the evidence needed to suggest we clean house and start over.
Poll: Congress’ new level of awfulness – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com BlogsWashington (CNN) - Americans' confidence in Congress as an institution has hit an all-time low, according to a new national poll.
Asked about a list of institutions in American society, only 10% of those questioned in a Gallup survey released Thursday say they have confidence in Congress. That's down three percentage points from last year, and according to their release, "this is the lowest level of confidence Gallup has found, not only for Congress, but for any institution on record."
Congress ranks last on a list of 16 institutions. At the top of the list: The U.S. military. Seventy-six percent say they have confidence in the armed forces. The presidency ranked fifth, at 36%.
Gallup's been asking this question since 1973. Back then 42% said they had confidence in Congress, which was the legislative body's high point. Confidence in Congress has been below 20% since 2006.
The poll indicates little partisan divide.
"Democrats, independents, and Republicans are about equally likely to express low confidence in Congress. This is a change from the past and likely reflects the split control of Congress," says the Gallup release.

Thought for the day:
We are always hearing about how Social Security is going to run out of money.
How come we never hear about Welfare running out of money?

And yet. 90% of those running will be reelected in 2014.

Well we each vote for a tiny fraction of congress, its real easy to not like all those other jerks. Its not an almost 50/50 deal like the president.
I think polls like this are taken out of context, and thus skewed as far as this sentiment goes. I believe most people have a low opinion of everyone else’s senators and representatives, but a decent opinion of their own congressmen. If a poll was taken from people in every legislative district asking what they thought of their own congressmen, the approval rating would be much higher. As it is, I don’t think congressional approval numbers mean much of anything.

But if the right of free and open debate is taken away from the minority party, and the millions of Americans who ask us to be their voice, I fear that the already partisan atmosphere in Washington will be poisoned to the point where no one will be able to agree on anything. – Sen Barack Obama
Again, I urge my Republican colleagues not to go through with changing these rules. In the long run, it is not a good result for either party. One day, Democrats will be in the majority again. And this rule change will be no fairer to a Republican minority than it is to a Democratic minority. – Sen Barack Obama
