The government didn't make drugs illegal for our health or benefit - they were outlawed in the name of various political expediencies. The most egregious was Nixon's thoroughly unconstitutional decree that drug possession (as opposed to interstate trade clauses) was to be a crime. Once that passed, we had "the war on drugs" which has been so wonderfully effective that drug use has increased steadily since its inception and we now have drugs such as crack and crystal meth - the natural by-products of black market sales in prohibition. Now that alcohol is legal, you don't see people blowing themselves up making gin in their basements - the same logic would apply with drug prohibition. Had cocaine and weed not been banned, "inventive" folks wouldn't have come up with things like crack to maximize profit on minimized risk.

Though, I have to say - I think it's kind of cute that you think big mommy government was looking out for you when it outlawed drugs.

Enigma2: Never saw ANY documentaries on drug usage other than "Reefer Madness." And somehow I don't think that counts. I merely happen to know history...

I'd vote for "neither", but that was not an option.

Assuming that I had the right to vote in the Presidential election, I'd vote for someone with reasonably much experience of holding elected office.

It wasn't on drug usage but actually about the use of cannabis sativa down the centuries to the present day.

I wish more people knew 'history' instead of just the official story!

really? Bush lies and people die... Moore lies and people laugh...

I'd rather have someone that made me laugh than one that is responsible for thousands of deaths... but that's just me... not that I'd vote for Moore... it takes more than being a comedian to be president... altho almost anyone would be better than the doofus we have now.

I don't know why you haven't nominated Robin Williams.

He has the right credentials - a history of drug addiction and when he speaks, people laugh!!

ted, in case you have forgotten, I am fortunate enough to be an Australian, living in Australia. You have heard of Australia, the country which has taxation without representation!!

MY silly ideas, as you call them, ted, have been influenced by some of the greatest thinkers down the ages. In fact, two of the, acknowledged, greatest living intellectuals, Richard Deakin and Noam Chomsky, agree with many of my ideas! I'm not familiar with the writings of the third-named!

Silly potshots so rarely hit their target, ted.
