Re: What Are American Values?
Well, technically, according to our founding and constitution etc etc, our main values are individual liberty (ie. that the "greater good" is not more important than the individual person). Also, another main value was that we have a representative government that works for the people, "a government for the people, by the people".) Those were supposed to be our main political values in my opinion. Culturally, well, that pretty much seems to change every generation or so. When you look at today's values, to me, it seems that they are more based around self interest and material, superficial things. There is little respect for those that question the current system. It's basically to the point that anyone who brings up questions is a "loon" or a "trouble maker" (or rabble rouser if you are talking to someone a bit older lol).
Of course, the media usually seems to be referring to the white pickett fence with a mom and dad, and 2.5 kids. baseball, Hot dogs. and other sterotypical things that most americans belive is the pinnacle of life.
