Re: the NFL and socialism

Sure, let me get 53 guys together and tell the NFL that my team is playing in the league as well (and I get an equal share of the profits).

Oh wait, I can't do that and share the profits? Hmm... Yeah, it's nothing like socialism.

The NFL is one business with 32 departments. The profit sharing is so the game can be played fairly.

I can't start another UFL and be recognized by the NFL, it has nothing to do with me. All the NFL does is make the game fair.

If the NFL didn't do this, it would be like baseball and look how shitty baseball has become.

If the NFL didn't have this profit sharing in place it would be like playing a game of monopoly (a game in which you're trying to sell as a spectator sport) and you give 3 players $500 to start off with and one player is allowed $15,000 to start with. It doesn't make the game that much fun to watch, therefor, it's going to be hard to sell. Make sense?

The NFL does what it does so they can stay profitable and keep the fans interested. You keep fans interested by keeping the game competitive.

matey, within the business model that be the NFL, their protocol actually reeks 'o socialism.

and it works too, to the benefit 'o the strong and the weak.

it kinda seems to this pirate that the NFL be a good example 'o how socialist tendencies can indeed co-exist with capitalist ones to achieve a successful end result, aye?

I always considered football to be extremely collectivist. Just remember there is no "I" in "team."

when i thinks about the NFL and how the monies and talent be distributed, it all seems to reek 'o socialism to me, aye?

first of all, ye have profit sharin' 'o TV revenues. that means them folks who are in lowly cities with grim media markets end up gettin' monies from the goliaths in markets such as the new york area. this ends up makin' each franchise viable.

then ye have things like the NFL draft. in case any of ye don't know how the NFL draft be workin', here be how it goes; ye get rewarded fer awfulness.
'twas in this way that a horrible franchise in Pittsburgh, the Steelers, got thar mighty quarterback Terry Bradshaw in the 1970 draft. the previous year, them hapless Steelers racked up the sterlin' record of 1-13.

fer all ye who follow the phenomenon that be the NFL, do them socialistic protocols bother ye....or do ye cheer when yer team gets a first round draft and survives due to profit sharin'?

aye?

Excellent question, Mead!

As a socialist, I actually hate the parity inspiring salary cap. For me, let the NFL go back to the good old days where the Cowboys, Raiders, Steelers, those hated Redskins and 49ers, could create their dynasties undeterred from the creeping socialism of the team owners.

and a players union to boot. but the big money franchises can easliy bypass the cap with deferred compensation.

Re: the NFL and socialism

Considering Larry Johnson's forced apology (anti-hate speech) and the owner's refusal to let Rush buy in, the NFL does seem socialist, or at least anti-American.

Nah, a goverment sanctioned monopoly wouldn't demand the local govt build tthem a bllion dollar stadiums with taxpayer money then charge outrageous pricess for tickets and keep all the profits for themselves while still crying out for the publlic to buy their super expensive low quality shit as if they were some sort of charity themselves.

Who cares that my families hungry, they all have Larry Csonka's number on their $200 t shirts. Gotta support the team

They're a government enforced fascist consortium. Closest thing is Krupp under Hitler
