This is like people saying that the Emperor in the new Star Wars movies was a remark on George Bush, which I found just as much of a stretch (especially since The Phantom Menace came out in 99).
Ok, but when you use HOPE and Healthcare as plot points, i mean come on. Yeah, its possible theirs no connection, but its still funny to think of it.

Sure, it's fun to entertaining and there's certainly the possibility that the writers were trying to stick in small connections in order to 'modernize' the series and make it relevant today. But keep in the mind that the original V came out in 1983 and had similar themes to it, playing on the fears of the Cold War era and Soviet Russia. Anyone who believes that Obama is a socialist/communist/marxist/maoist/whatever is obviously going to make some sort of connection whether it exists or not.

Obama just did it better than anyone before.

Wow talk about your stretchign for somethign negative to say partisanship. This is a tv show that had nothign to do with Obama or the current state of affairs as the lead time to bring a tv show to air is a lot lot longer than the administrastion has been in power. Yeah they may have thrown a few one liners in at the last minute but the overall theme and look and feel of the show has been set in stone for at least a year.

sheesh they remake a cool cult classic miniseries from the 80s

Intentional political innuendo or not, I think the writers and producers for the show want at least a little controversy so as to increase ratings.

Well no wonder it has been so chilly Steve and I actually agree on something....I have always loved Morena since I first saw her on Firefly as Inara.

And Tann with Bumpers like that it just means you can hit it that much harder....

Eagleted: You know all I saw was a retelling of an 80s cult classic that itself was justthe retelling (very thinly veiled) of the rise of the nazi's. Yeah maybe hollywood threw a few thigns in there that can be considered right wing, or left wing or whatever but the bottom line for the producers is get people talkign about the show, tell the story, sell commercials and probably action figures and playsets and comic books and novels and whatever else marketing tie in they can think of if the show takes off big enough.

As for Jericho I had no problem with the imagery in that show as I could see the right wing trying to pull somethign like that. I mean there isnt that much difference between the right wing and the terrorists. Jennings and Rall equalled Haliburton, Ravenwood equalled Blackwater.

There just is no clear parallells in neo-V like that. So far we have not exactly seen much of anything that hasnt been seen or done before. Its all happened before it will happen again in hollywood.

Starship Troopers the book, not the movie, is a great example of political satire in a sci-fi setting. Was published in 1959 and parts of it seem almost prophetic in regards to the degradation of our society.

I love 50's and 60's sci-fi books and short stories. Some of the best writting of the genre, IMO.

Actually, the original series was more allegorical to Nazi Germany. In the updated series (which i thought was pretty good so far) the spray painted "V" is a tagging encouraged by the Visitors (at least so far) to spread their brand as it were (they are referred to as "the Vs" short for visitors). In the original series, an old jewish man who had survived the camps in WWII, and who had been apprehensive of the Visitors from the start, catches two kids spraying graffiti on a Visitor propoganda poster, it looks like he is going to scold them, when he takes the had of the kid holding the spray paint and make the "V" on the poster, then asks if the kids understand, and tells them it is for "victory" (also done in WWII) and tells them to go and tell their friends.

BTW, Anna may be younger and prettier, but Jane Badler and Diana in the original was tremendous in the role:
