Jon Stewart explains Fox News - TV Squad

Any disagreements with the piece? I think it was damn near spot-on.
Sorry, you want me to fact check a satirical skit? Interestingly, I caught a segment where he had Lou Dobbs on, and he asked Lou Dobbs a question, then interupted him in 10 secs and talked the rest of the segment, giving his own opinion and answer to his own question. Then he cut to commericial and said Dobbs comments would be online. Its a comedy show people, not news.

Yep...I was pretty sure you didn't..and equally sure you didn't take him that seriously either...you don't seem the type who would, unlike...

Re: Jon Stewart explains Fox News vs Opiniotainment

Its my mistake in thinking that rightwingers might actually care why most Americans find Fox distasteful.

Obviously rightwingers aren't going to listen to a long boring seminar on how biased and disingenuous Fox is. I figured a comedic, but fairly accurate, explanation might break through the bubble of self-imposed ignorance.

My bad.

I'm sorry that you are throwing a tantrum because we didn't agree with your example using a comedian for a more serious subject. I hope the rest of your day goes much better.

Okay. The results are wrong because you say so. Got it.

Most americans dont find FOX distasteful. It WAS your mistake thinking "rightwingers" care about John Stewart and would agree with your name calling.

If she's constantly saying you're wrong, she sounds perfect as she is.

Not agreeing would be acceptable. Not agreeing and actually pointing out at least one or two major flaws would be welcomed.

Not watching it and commenting anyway is just stupid.

Fox viewership is around 1% of the US population.

I refrained from name calling until the idiocy of the right became once again unbearable. I'll refrain from biting my tongue in the future since its apparently wasted effort.

If you choose to start a discussion with a hostile intent towards people you know will disagree with you, then you will continue to get the response that you claim to be surprised about. I dont beleive you are or were sincere in attempting to have an actual constructive conversation. So be it.

I don't think my original post showed hostility. I acknowledged that some people are "Fox viewers" and attempted to illustrate some of the reasons why "non-Fox viewers" don't like Fox. That should have opened up the door for people to point out the flaws of the piece, or to make new points not considered in the piece.

Hostility in the original post would have been something like:

"You stupid idiots that watch Fox News got your network completely slammed in this piece. Watch it and weep."

A message like that would have been hostile, and certainly wouldn't have started any reasonable discussion. Whether you think so or not, I would have welcomed and enjoyed some reasonable discussion on the whole concept of opiniotainment. A couple of people have pointed out that "other" networks do it too. But thats about as far as the discussion has gone so far.

Re: Jon Stewart explains Fox News vs Opiniotainment

I watched the video several times, very interesting. Fox News is actually an oxymoron. It is opiniontainment. In reality there's nothing wrong with that as long as the viewer knows it. I know Olberman and Madow are liberals, though I will say that Madow is much more analytical, while Olberman, though at times is serious, his main goal is ridicule and some humor. No problem I know it.

The problem is that there is a certain segment of the population, rather large close to 17 million, that believe that all news other than Fox News(sic) is biased by intent. It would be silly to think that reporters or anchors wouldn't be biased, but I believe most, outside of Fox News(sic), at least attempt to be unbiased. And today we can get news from many sources, many of which are obviously biased some strive not to be. But we have a large segment of the population that believe that Fox's news report are really "Fair and Balanced". In reality I would say Fox News(sic) in total is about as unbiased as John Stewart, just not as funny.
