I used to talk on my self phone while driving. It was part of my job, to offer technical assistance. Later a law passed preventing me from doing so. I have never had a ticket, nor have I been in an accident. I have had no problems with cell phones distracting me while driving. I have had more problems talking to the person next to me in the passenger seat because I tend to look at them while I talk to them. The little time it takes me to look at the person I am talking to could be very moment that a deer decided to pop out in front of me. Even if you made a law for every distracting thing that a drive might do while driving, you'll never prevent all the accidents. In the end it is the driver that is the problem not the cell phone.

They probably are for the reasons you outline so well below.
I think the truth of the matter is that cell phones make people stupid.
If I had to own a cell phone I wouldn't;
1. Answer it or talk on it in my car, unless I was the passenger.
2. Take it to work, unless owning and carrying it was part of my work.
3. Have a conversation on it in public unless I was far enough away from others that they couldn't hear my end of the conversation.
Doubtful.

Now that's just stupid, Captain. It's a convenience I like, especially driving by myself late at night. When my daughter had to have an emergency C-section, I wasn't at home but I had my cell and was able to get to the hospital before she was taken to surgery.
Nowadays, it really doesn't make sense not to have a cell...hell, even my 73 year old father has one for emergencies!
But for the record, long before everyone had the cute little phones we carry now, I did have the "phone in a bag" which was required by the home health agency I worked for.

Really ?
Or rather, is it stupid that we are coming to make ourselves beleive that we cannot live without such conveniences ?
Yes, it's a convenience not a necessity.
Lets remember that every convenience comes with a cost. Things always balance themselves out whether we choose to admit it or recognize it or not![]()
