I can definitely see some new laws coming down banning cell phone usage while driving. This could well be the new drunk driving, which has become a pretty big source of income in most municipalities.

What car? I said I drive a motorcycle. I can't hear the phone ring nor feel it vibrate so why would I stop? I don't know about your bike, but mine does not have "park".
If you want me to call you back, leave a message. You obviously wanted to talk to me. You did dial my number, but I don't really want to talk to anyone. I'm busy. Show me the courtesy of letting me know why you want to take up my time with stupid questions that you'd find I've likely already answered if you had taken the time to listen to your voicemail.

Thats how you feel. A company that hires people to come on site and perform some kind of job might feel differently. They might tell people to keep their cell phones out of the building they work in so they will remain undistracted while at work ..... then you will have to argue with them about it. If you were thinking of working there of course![]()
I have worked in many secure facilities that did not allow cellphones on the premises. Things may have changed, but Brookhaven and Sandia Nat'l Labs were mighty tough on people that broke the rules.

If God meant for you to talk and drive He would have allowed speakerphones to be invented.
Oh wait... he did.
Gee... look at this... I have one.
How about that?
Obviously, that isn't always, or hasn't always been, the case as you stated you know that you can talk and drive safely. If you currently refuse to do that, then forget I even replied to your post. It was more a comment aimed at people who have to take calls in their cars, rather that about you specifically.

At work I drive a van. I answer the phone unless I have Rush Limbaugh turned up too loud. Leave me a message, I'll get back to you. If you don't, I won't.

Much of Europe already has this as a law, actually. You get a fine if you´re on the cellphone while driving. You´re free to use a headset or whatever, of course.
I got no problem with it. Several studies have shown that when you talk on the phone while driving, your mind is preoccupied with the conversation instead of watching the road. One study (I´ll try and dig it up) said it was equivalant to having a 0.8 blood alcohol level.

Some people are just easily distracted. Riding a motorcycle affords me a view of people in cars that car drivers just don't get. I see people on cells, putting on make-up, eating, drinking, yelling at children.... Hell! I even saw a guy the other day shaving with a blade and lather. Most people can hold a brief conversation and maintain control of their vehicles, but there are those that have to have that evil box pressed up against their head at all cost. I've seen people (even a police officer) on the phone and typing on a lap top while in motion at the same time. That is just plain stupid.

And it should be fined. I don´t care if the person endangers themselves by doing it, my problem is that they endanger everyone else on the road. And I don´t particularly want to be killed by some idiot, who couldn´t wait to call Aunt Norma until 5 minutes later, when he had gotten home.

Some states alread have the ban:
State Cell Phone Driving Laws
We have a cellphone ban while driving here in CT. I still see people breaking the law all the time. I hear they've been cracking down on it in New Haven, which probably means they need the cash, lol..
I don't really think it's a big deal to talk on your phone while driving, but texting is a different story. I'll read a text while driving, but I stopped trying to write texts while driving. Bad idea.
