Banned ad for using the word "vagina"

So, Kotex just came out with a new ad for their tampons.

    Banned Ad

The one in the link is the third version. Why? Because in the first she used the sentene "Oh, so that's what is supposed to happen with my vagina!". That got rejected by three different networks as "too harsh language".

The second time round they had substituted "vagina" with "down there". Same result.

What the hell is going on? We're subjected to much worse things through TV on a daily basis (murders, war, drugs, feel free to add to the list).

Are the networks (who I acknowledge are free to do as they please) really doing the right thing or is this some sort of misunderstood protection of our delicate minds and feelings? By "our" I mean yours, seeing as this ad would probably encounter zero resistance in Europe.

Please tell me that's it the networks and the FCC that's totally out of sync with the population

We are puritans with fucked up priorities as to what constitute offensive behavior or words.

Dick Cheney telling Pat Leahy to "Go fuck yourself" is okay. Bombing the shit out of other countries is okay.

Saying "vagina" in a commercial about tampons? Bring out the guillotine.

Given the mile long list of slang terms for the beav, I'd say vagina is pretty tame.

    Good lord, people.

Down there? Down where? The kneecap? Thats not supposed to happen with your kneecap.

It's part of that whole squeamishness that some men have with female anatomy. It's pathetic, really.

Well, I´m not squeamish... Sure, I don´t know how it works or what it want, but squeamish, hell no!

I know men who use to hate it when any of the tampon or pad commercials came on t.v., especially while they were eating dinner. Silly boys!

I'll be honest with you, I love vagina. I do. I'm a vagina fan.

Me too, speakeasy, unless of course it's stinky or bleeding or has any discharge or gremlins or anything

Belonging to a human is also a prerequisite, I guess.

    Everything in moderation, pramjockey.
