    Obama And Fashion

    Preface:

Please note the section I placed this thread in. I do this, to make this thread more about us than about Obama. This thread is not meant as being critical of Obama. In fact, I’m not sure it’s meant to be critical of anyone. I’m making an observation and asking you here to confirm or deny my observation.

Again… This thread is not meant as being critical of Obama.

    ----

If you recall the last time we had a young iconic president, JFK, he and Jackie brought with them their sense of fashion.

Jackie Kennedy and her ‘pill box’ hat for one

    John Kennedy without a hat…

Have the Obama’s had any such influence in the world of fashion?

I think not. Do you? If so, how and why. Please point it out. I don’t think so, and after giving others a chance, I’ll explain why I think that this is so.

Again… This thread is not meant as being critical of Obama. This is to explore (if I’m proven correct) how we have changed in the last 50 years.

    Thoughts?

I would tend to agree with you there, and although I do think Michelle Obama is a great lady, her sense of fashion (in my humble opinion) is kind of a "hit and miss!" Sometimes she looks great, and sometimes she wears things that look terrible on her. . .but, you must remember that it doesn't really matter, as the "Obama haters" will criticize her for everything she wears anyway. . .even when she looks absolutely beautiful, as in that long evening dress she wore for the State dinner with the President of China. . .there were stupid people criticizing her for "wearing red. . .like Communist red!!!"
That was such a stretch!. . .why couldn't she be wearing red because she looks beautiful in red. . .or maybe even, to "honor the RED STATES!!!!" (sarcasm!!!:rolleyes

No, to go back to your comment: I believe the reason the First Lady is not setting a marked fashion trend is because today, fashion is a lot broader than what "political figures" wear!. . .The big money is in what "Hollywood stars wear!"
Second, the center of fashion design hasn't really been in the U.S. for a long time. . .not even in France!
Now, most great fashion designers are Asian.

But it has been a VERY long time anyway since the First Ladies have inspired any "fashion trends!" I don't remember either Laura Bush or Hillary Clinton inspiring anyone. . . Now, Barbara Bush made a splash with her fashion sense. . .but it certainly was very limited (to third age American matrons).

And. . .really, I think you may have a very difficult time tying "First Ladies fashion sense" to politics!!!

Mrs. B. Hussein Obama wore these trend setting tennis shoes to a photo op for a food bank. They were selling for $540 at the snobby French fashion house Lanvin.

I don't know what the term is in Austrian.

    Re: Obama And Fashion

Sarah Palin is a star. She sets fashion. Jackie Kennedy had that same star power, and she set fashion. Nancy Reagan had star power too, but not to match Jackie or Sarah. (Nancy did own red!)

Some First Ladies have other influences though. Eleanor, Lady Bird, Roslyn, and Barbara all had interests they worked with, and were effective with. Michelle will no doubt fall into that category of First Lady.

I am pretty sure that the accepted and top ranked designers are all hoping that Michelle gives her business to rising your fashion designers or to competitors, and not to them.

President Obama I believe will be more about personal style and less about clothing.
"There is no gain in arguing with a poo flinging monkey. While his
gibbering and raucous cries of victory may seem obnoxious in your ears
as you walk away, he will soon be quietly sitting behind his bars again
and licking his own feces off his fingers as you carry on with your day."

I must have missed that fashion trend... was it red skittered conservative suites, or camo?

The point I was looking for is this: not only aren't the Obama's setting the style, no one seems to be. And haven't for a long while now.

I thought that given the youth and the hype that they (the Obama's) would.
