LOL. Having zero interest in something does not constitute censorship. The fact that there are but two very poor French translations of Atlas Shrugged merely shows that nobody wants to put any effort in it.

And I can't say I blame them. I usually have no problem reading something I vehemently disagree with but the intellectual poverty of Ayn Rand's work made it one of the very few books I've ever literally tossed away out of boredom and repugnance.

Another reason is that Rand is culturally confined in that it is not universal in time and region as real philosophy ought to be while Rand is merely a propagandist for a specific approach to a specific culture. It's all but irrelevant outside of that confined space.

I hear it's got Angelina Jolie in it, that makes it somewhat interesting to me.

As a fiction writer Rand's skills levels were literally abysmal. She is particularly bad in making realistic dialogue IIRC, which is strange since she was a middling fair screen and playwright. In an 1100 page work she has one character say one really memorable line, that's it, and just about everything else is long, amazingly dull, and often incredibly improbable speeches. I mean, you just DON'T argue philosophy in the middle of a gunfight.

She could also plot entertainingly when she tried but usually didn't. Her works appeal is almost totallly in its ideas.

I'd like to see a good screenwriter get ahold of this, and I hope if Jolie plays Dagny Taggart that she plays the character as interestingly (and sexily) as Rand wrote her. The general story has definite potential, but if they stick to the book it's going to be as dull as dishwater and silly as shit in spots..

I hope it's as good as all that really great right wing music.....

Ah--the book was written in 1957? And I wouldn't expect a liberal to actually be able to read an 11 hundred page novel in the first place--nor would I ever expect someone with your ideology--to want to learn about the effects of socialism on the general population.

Therefore, of course I would never expect that you would be interested in such a novel or movie in the first place. That doesn't mean others aren't.

Ayn Rand is a racist hatemonger and anybody who reads and supports her crap is one too. Shame on anybody who supports her.

A true liberal wouldn't support her in any way shape or form.

Shame on Angelina Jolie and anyone in that film.

My book-reading former liberal daughter is going with us too.

She deliberized herself--once she finally did her own income tax return-and started paying attention to where her tax dollars were being spent.-

This novel would be very difficult for a liberal to read. I've never met any liberals that take the time to read anything--that's not associated with comic books or tabloid magazines.

That novel was difficult for anyone to read. I much prefer Anthem.

I love people who run around saying, "Who is John Galt?" all the time. I know who John Galt was. He was a fictional character, in a fictional universe, in a work of fiction, written by a horrible writer who couldn't even live by her own principles when it came right down to the wire.

Rand is kind of like the capitalist equivalent of Marx.

Her ideas look great on paper, but in reality, they tend to fail miserably.
