Here it is, the 10th anniversary of Sept 11th and google puts up a tiny ribbon and "remembering Sept 11" below their standard graphic. You'd think they would make a bigger effort in remembering our fallen countrymen.![]()
Take a good hard look, it's coming.

The German google page just shows the standard design today. And it shows variations often...
I doubt americans had Goethes birthday recently....

Google is well-known to do stuff like that. They have large graphics for Earth Day, for example, but none for Christmas. I personally don't care in terms of complaining because my life isn't dictated by what a website does or doesn't do. It did, however, play a part in my refusal to use the website any more. I now use Bing.
Yeah what's wrong with them? Everyone else is cashing in.
HEY Look at ME! I'm all about the anniversary because I'm so patriotic!! Vote for ME! BUY my products!!

Frank Zappa

I no longer put much effort or consideration into what Google does for whatever holiday, event, or remembrance day we happen to have. IMHO, you should save the disappointment for those that show true hatred on this day writting about shame on 9/11 vs. Google that does, arguably, little to acknowledge the day.

"Every time something really bad happens, people cry out for safety, and the government answers by taking rights away from good people.” - Penn Jillette amazingly enough, and I agree.
I don't use google to remember events. I use google to find what I want to find on the internet. With Bing I might as well be typing in random shit because its results are basically random.

Actually, there was a recent study that showed that of the major search engines Google returned the most irrelevant results. I just saw it reported as a blurb, so I don't know the details, but there you go. Google most certainly was the pioneer in the modern search engine field (note, I said "modern," as I recognize that there were lots of search engines before it) and as a result there's a lot of residual historical love and devotion to it. People think that it's magically "better" than other engines and it's not. This is not to try to convince you to not use Google, of course. I'm merely letting you know that other search engines are more than able to match Google.
I had to find something quickly one day on a machine that had bing configured as the default search. I didn't realize it was bing, but I couldn't figure out why none of the pages had anything to do with what I was looking for. After 2 failed search strings, I looked and realized it was bing. I switched to Google, entered the same search string, and the link I needed was 2nd on the page. I'm not trying to turn this into a "Google is better" thread, because I don't really care what search other people use. I liked Alta Vista years ago, which is now apparently part of Yahoo?
Back on topic, I don't think Google could do anything for 9/11 without being criticized by someone. Either for doing too much, or for not doing enough.

That's a pretty irrelevant statement since it could be made about any action by any person in any circumstance. Basically, you don't mind what Google did, which is fine. Just don't try to play it like criticism of their action is unwarranted. Google chose an action and they clearly did so for a reason.
